A politician’s best option is sometimes to just put down the shovel when they find themselves in an untenable position. Stacey Abrams needs to be reminded of this adage.
As RedState reported previously, Abrams decided it’d be a great idea to post a picture of herself maskless while surrounded by masked children. It is clear that this poses an issue. COVID-19 exposure is lower in children than for fully vaccinated, boosted adults. Because of that, other countries long ago stopped masking young children, if they ever did, because it’s such a pointless, ineffective, and damaging practice. It is especially shocking when a politician removes the mask and smiles ear-to-ear while the children are still muzzled.
Perhaps aware of how horrible the photograph was, Abrams’ handlers quickly removed it and released a statement accusing racism behind the criticism. After that, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a far-left newspaper, set out to try to clean up the mess. They were however surprised to hear from Abrams, who said that they had only made the hole worse.

This is what I want to clarify. Abrams took her mask off so that people could hear her as if children don’t have that exact same problem. Then, instead of putting it back on, she left it off to have a photo-op, but only under the condition that the children she’s with were all forced to wear masks? Such behavior is not only hypocritical, it’s completely unscientific. Abrams has been fully vaccinated. Why would kids, who already aren’t strong vectors for the virus, need to be masked to be around her?
It’s deeper than that, though. It’s not science that is at work here. Anyone who supports masking children is completely insane. These people are willing to harm children in order to gain political points from a segment of society that is hypersensical about COVID-19. Abrams’ support for school mask mandates is unacceptable.
This is the type of governor Georgia would like to see elected in November. This woman will show off her wealth while looking better than the kids.
Lastly, you can take this episode as more evidence that Abrams is not the supreme political talent she’s made out to be. Her biggest claim to fame was losing the last round by over 50,000 votes against Brian Kemp, and she has not conceded. Since then, she’s shown an ability to garner donations and run a dark money-fed voting operation, but that’s a different game than actually running a successful campaign for governor.
The way her political instincts responded to the masking incident was terrible. She deleted the image as an admission that she was wrong. She looks weak and deplorable when she doubles down on racism and charges. Further, it oozes a political arrogance that she can’t afford to have in a state like Georgia. She’s not running in New York, and if Abrams doesn’t realize that soon, the current polls showing her getting blown out by Brian Kemp are going to become a reality.
