It’s obvious that so many people don’t care much about Jan. 6, commemoration, in the media. Their sham was exposed last autumn..
Considering the level of pre-coverage we are being treated to ahead of Thursday’s Half-dozen Days Mark, you would think this was an impending national holiday. We cannot say the media is looking for an excuse to rehash the riot seen in the Capitol one year ago — they have not shut up about it for the entire year. But they are positively vibrating with the excitement to fill the week with coverage — again — and creating every excuse to re-run the worst possible video footage from that fateful day.
It’s funny, they hype this thing so much that you would expect them to sell it. branded t-shirts and beer koozies emblazoned with “Insurrection-fest 2022.”
Media has worked tirelessly to bring this story to life, trying to inject some vitality into it. It has been said that there would be more disruptions over the course of the year. In January 2006, Wolf Blitzer was created. Honored the 9-month anniversary(???riot), and then some of the defendants stood trial, and then some sentences were handed down, and then…well…more stuff came out, amounting to nothing more than an excuse to keep talking about the riot.
They finally filibustered it enough to reach the one-year mark. And that This was my reason to go on blathering. Sarah Longwell, the publisher of the spring-a-leak Bad Ship Bulwark published it with great humour. mentioned how “There is every reason to remind Americans about what exactly happened on 1/6.” It is impossible to define the word. Remembermust be applied to a subject that has been regularly featured in the news for 52 consecutive week.
Americans have not become concerned about their obsession. Recent polls showThe favorability of Republicans across all political lines has increased over the past year. During the obsessive coverage of riots, Democratic Party support declined. The result is that the public cares more about the daily issues in their lives than the drama of one year ago.
The press was exposed in some fashion. The insistence that the Capitol Riot is a grave threat to our democracy and the nation is a real danger to it, has been exposed as theater in the media. We have been promised for months that more violence would befall, but nothing has happened. But then finally in September – FINALLY – something tangibly violent was set to arrive.
It Justice For The January 6 RallyIt was all planned and media were filled with the hope that there would be chaos and doom. The media reports that followed this tragic event were dire and filled with resignation. Our nation’s capital would once again become beset with violence, and there was little preventative action that would help. The only thing that could have been done was to allow the media to document the unfolding chaos. They were elated.
It was a day that, as we now all know, did not see any violence. The press wanted there to be violence – indeed, they Required it. This was their entire foundation for months of hysterical coverage about the riot. It included the assertion that Republicans wanted to destroy our democracy and the ominous Big Lie, which said that nobody was safe from the shadow of the media. A few hundred hopefuls who had been hoping for the draw were not able to be found in the crowd.
To see just how manipulative of the narrative — and unserious in their claims the media was — we can look at their coverage before the rally and contrast it with the analysis in the lack of an aftermath. The media quickly forgets about the mistakes in their forecasts and claims they are correct, despite the fact that danger is elsewhere.
It was obvious that the people involved in the immediate change in their approach didn’t care about reporting accurately on the events, but rather, they wanted to exaggerate the import to claim that some evil force is toxifying this nation.
Notice the dramatic narrative change?
Pre-Rally Coverage
CNN –Capitol Hill residents fear political violence ahead of the right-wing rally
NEW YORK TIMES – Officials have warned legislators and their assistants to stay clear of the region on Saturday
WASHINGTON POST – The police claimed they received intelligence regarding possible violence
NPR – Capital must face its greatest security challenge
ROLLING STONE – The Upcoming ‘Justice for J6’ Rally Is Sure Sounding Like It Could Be a Runback of January 6th. An intelligence memo has warned of violence at an upcoming Washington rally scheduled for later this month.
NEWSWEEK – The “Justice for J6” rally planned for Sept. 18 might present a “challenge” to American democracy
VOX – A Monday statement from the US Capitol Police warning about “concerning online chatter about a demonstration planned for September 18” already raised worries that Saturday’s Justice for J6 rally could spiral out of control and result in violent scenes reminiscent of January 6.
Reporting after the rally
CNN – The physical event may matter less than the digital conversationYou can find it. The “Justice” message has been mainstreamed across right-wing media.
NEW YORK TIMES –Even though organizers were disappointed by the low turnout, this scene demonstrated how the Capitol attack continues eight months later.
WASHINGTON POST – The worrisome pro-Capitol-riot activism isn’t a rally. It’s in right-wing media. If the goal of the rally this weekend is to elevate a sympathetic view of the rioters, it doesn’t really matter if it fails. This is happening already in the right-wing media environment, which seeks attention.
NPR – That doesn’t mean the Republican Party has stopped promoting the same approach President Trump took that led to the storming of Capitol Hill
ROLLING STONE – The ‘JusticeForJ6’ Rally Wasn’t a Joke — It Was A Warning. The rally was small, but the movement isn’t. The GOP has been firmly supportive of the Capitol insurrectionists
NEWSWEEK – Republican Party base thinks the U.S. is being taken from them
VOX – Anemic participation at Saturday’s event doesn’t reflect fading right-wing enthusiasm for Trump’s election lies — his supporters are just changing tactics
Not only does the shift appear uniform, it also took place Instantly. These outlets hyped and promised a MAGA Insurrection, Part 2, then the very next day, claimed that a lack of interest proves the movement has evolved into something else…that they never alluded to until this rally was a bust.
Every one of these outlets got it wrong and tried to convince us to get their opinion.
Another inconvenience ensues The very next month, it took place. Organizational activists opposed to the government stormed Washington D.C.’s federal building, clashed against police and vandalized it. They occupied it, some police were taken to hospital. It was the very type of violence we had been promised would be taking place – and the press did not care.
These were environmental leftists, you see, and their brand of attack on the government is — seemingly — approved. According to media reports, violence and organised attacks in their own right are not the issue. Liberals can commit violence against federal buildings and overthrow the government without threatening democracy. There is no reason to summon Congressional commissions for an investigation into their actions. Inciting violence like this isn’t the fault of Democrats.
So, this week the media are in a celebration of remembrance, believing that everybody else is terrified by the lies they’re telling. We have much more important things and we are happy to let the media get away from us while they celebrate our own creations.
