CNN’s 2022 Resolution: Make Everything an Attack on Democracy

On Sunday, CNN’s so-called “Reliable sources” rang in 2022 with some New Year resolutions for the media (I guess that makes them News Year resolutions) at the end of the show. They only had one goal, and that was to make everything a menace to democracy.

In the final minutes of the first episode of 2022, host and media apologist Brian Stelter was joined by partisan author and CNN columnist Nicole Hemmer to review “some New Year’s resolutions for the news media.”

“Let’s figure out what the press should be doing in the next 12 months,” Stelter prefaced. “Do you have a resolution for us, Nicole?”

According to Hemmer, “The big one” was for them to “have a long memory” and keep in mind that “The end of democracy will not be a story for 2020, 2021 or 2021. We will continue to see it through 2022.”

Adding: “It’s going to be less splashy, it’s going to be in statehouses, and the Supreme Court, and in Congress. This is not necessarily going to be a rebellion. So, keeping an eye on the story even when it’s not, you know, those gripping images that we’ve had for the past two years.”

What she’s saying is that everything the left and media don’t like taking place anywhere in the country and for whatever reason should be portrayed as a threat to the country.

That means voting integrity legislation, even if it’s just rolling back pandemic protocols, are a threat to democracy. A threat to democracy: The Supreme Court is examining the protection of the right to live. A threat to democracy: The court protecting New York State’s Second Amendment.

Stelter was obviously open to the idea of his extremist guest.

STELTER: Right! You can’t cover it because of the difficulty in covering these stories. But hey, that’s an important challenge for the media.

HEMMER: Absolutely.

In an earlier segment of the show she displayed that deep partisan need by mocking the entirety of right for refusing being made to feel bad about the horrible January 6th events committed by just a few as opposed to the rest.

Denialism, therefore, is rooted in a need to not be tied with anything that was so horrible,” she whined. “Trump supporters were among those responsible.People within the administration. So, it is.He should distance himself from the responsibility of that crime. It is an offense against our country. Terrorism is a major driver.

Will a public rejection of President Biden and the left’s political agenda, incompetency, fearmongering, and overreach possibly electing a Republican majority in the House in the mid-terms be viewed as the threat to democracy? Likely.

Amazon and Vicks sponsored lucrative deals that enabled this threat of slapping everything with dishonest labels. They are linked to each other.

BRIAN STALTER: It’s all right. Last but not the least, some New Year’s Resolutions to help news media. Nicole Hemmer (author of) is here with me. Messengers for the Right. Let’s figure out what the press should be doing in the next 12 months. Nicole, can you give us a solution?

NICOLE HEMMER (I do). A long memory is the big one. It isn’t a 2020 or 2021 story. The end of democracy will not be a distant memory. It’ll be there until 2022. It’s going to be less splashy, it’s going to be in statehouses, and the Supreme Court, and in Congress. The insurrection will not be the only thing it is going to look like. It’s important to keep an eye on it even though it doesn’t appear as an insurrection.

STELTER: Right! You can’t cover it because of the difficulty in covering these stories. But hey, that’s an important challenge for the media.

HEMMER: Absolutely.

STELTER: Right. Nicole, many thanks.

HEMMER: Thank you so much.

STELTER: We are grateful that you joined us in this edition of the New Year’s Edition Reliable sources.
