Another day, another member of Vice-President Kamala Harris’s staff runs for the door as more stories of toxic work environments and bullying abound.
According to CNBC, deputy director of public engagement for Harris, Vincent Evans, has decided enough was enough and left Harris’s team in order to take a top spot in the Congressional Black Caucus.
“I am deeply honored to be named the executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Evans said in the statement. “I started my career in Washington working for a member of the CBC, so I know firsthand the tremendous leadership and impact this caucus has in Congress and across the country.”
Evans claims that he’s leaving on great terms with Harris and that she supports the move. The claim goes on to say that the move is unrelated to the others.
Perhaps this claim is true and the departure of Evans is just a natural evolution of someone’s career, but it’s hard not to see departures happening within the Harris team amid stories of “soul-destroying criticism” as anything but abandonment. Symone Sanders (senior adviser, chief spokesperson for Vice-President Kamala Harris), has been the latest to leave.
It also does seem odd to depart from Harris’s company when there’s a stronger-than-usual chance that the president may not maintain his position for various reasons and be forced to step down, putting Harris in a prime spot to become the President herself and allowing her staff to reach the pinnacle of their careers.
It’s interesting, then, that people seem to be abandoning her anyway. Two things are clear from this.
For one, the rumors of the horrifically toxic work environment must be true and people are departing Harris’s company in droves in order to seek out more stable workplaces.
Secondly, it really speaks to the fact that Harris’s future might not be as bright as some might think and that her chances of becoming president are far slimmer than many people believe. According to multiple sources Harris is a problem for Biden’s administration, and she has been moved into the background.
Approval numbers are also dropping as a result.

Even if Evans’ departure wasn’t related to the toxic work environment, it’s clear that he saw greater opportunity elsewhere and not with the woman next in line to be president of the free world. No matter what, it doesn’t speak well to the vice-president’s situation.
