Students Protest ‘Hateful’ Ben Shapiro by Chanting ‘John McCain Is Dead’

“Ben Shapiro is also just extremely lame.”

Students protesting Daily Wire editor in chief Ben Shapiro’s appearance at an Ohio State University event Tuesday repeatedly chanted “John McCain’s dead,” referencing the late Arizona Republican Senator.

Shapiro’s at times controversial rhetoric, as well as his rising profile in the mainstream, has made him a target for many on the left who regard him as a dangerous and ”hateful” personality.

In a video shared to Twitter by The Federalist’s Emily Jashinsky, protesters can be seen holding signs and yelling outside the doors of the venue where Shapiro was slated to speak. They can also be heard chanting “Reagan’s dead,” alluding to conservative icon, and former president, Ronald Reagan.

The university’s Morrill Scholars Program Student Advisory Council, in an email sent Tuesday, urged students who felt threatened by Shapiro’s presence on the campus to “seek a safe environment.”

“Shapiro’s rhetoric has the potential to threaten the emotional and mental safety of much of the campus community,” the advisory council said, adding “If you do not have a safe space or would prefer not to be alone, please feel free to join other Morrill Scholars and our staff in the MSP Learning Community on the 3rd floor of Blackburn house tonight from 5pm-8pm.”

Young America’s Foundation, who is sponsoring Shapiro’s tour across college campuses, told The Federalist that protesters began to chant “Bush Senior’s dead” until they realized George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, is still alive.
