Long-running Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey rolled his eyes after questioning a contestant on climate change, prompting proponents of eco-activism to criticize his “problematic” reaction.
“Are leaders of today doing enough to protect future generations for climate change? If not, what else should they be doing?” Harvey said to Miss South Africa, and eventual pageant winner, Zozibini Tunzi.
Harvey appeared to be visibly annoyed by the question on the hot-button topic, rolling his eyes after he’d finished
“I think the future leaders could do a little bit more. But, however, I feel we as individuals ourselves can also play a part in making the climate the way it should be in the future. I mean, we have children protesting for climate and I feel like as adults we should join as well, we should have corporations join as well, and the government should be taking it seriously,” Tunzi replied.

“I mean from sixth grade I’ve been learning that the climate is deteriorating and the planet is dying and up to us to keep our planet safe.”
High-profile activists, particularly celebrity activists like Greta Thunberg, have recently thrust the subject of climate change reform into the public eye.
Users on Twitter accused Harvey of failing to take the climate change issue, which has proven ideologically divisive, seriously.
“The thing about Steve Harvey that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe,” said one commenter.

“Steve Harvey rolling his eyes at that Climate Change is reason #67 as to why he should never return #MissUniverse2019,” tweeted another.
Still, Harvey had his supporters, especially among conservatives on Twitter.
Steve Harvey’s eyeroll at the end of this stupid climate change question is how most of us feel. If they really wanted to get political they should have asked Miss South Africa here about the state sanctioned land stealing and genocide of their white farmers. ?? #SteveHarvey pic.twitter.com/6IuAKqrH2l

Conservative media watchdog NewsBuster said Harvey’s reaction was “priceless” in a tweet on its official Twitter account.
“Even @IAmSteveHarvey is sick hearing about #ClimateChange,” tweeted one commenter.
This isn’t the first time Harvey has stirred up controversy at the “Miss Universe” pageant, where he’s served as host for five consecutive years.
He faced a widespread public outcry after mistakenly crowning Miss Colombia as the “Miss Universe” winner in 2015.
