Two Trump-backed candidates won big victories in the primary elections in Wisconsin and Washington on Tuesday night.
In Wisconsin, Rebecca Kleefisch picked up 42% of the vote to come in second to Tim Michels’ 47%. According to recent polls, Kleefisch is running neck-and–neck with Michels. Jaime Beutler Herrera was facing a primary challenge from WA-03. Beutler Herrera, one of 10 GOP members voting to impeach Donald Trump. In a primaries in the jungle, she came third to Trump-endorsed Joe Kent who lost her by less than 1000 votes.
In Connecticut’s primary for the US Senate, Trump’s pick, Leora Levy, romped to a win picking up over 50% of the votes in a three-person race. She had been nominated but never confirmed to be President Trump’s ambassador to Chile. Themis Klarides was the establishment choice and won 40%. The only dark spot in the evening for President Trump was that Dan Newhouse, a quisling from Washington’s 4th district, evaded justice. Newhouse was one of the 10 GOP members who voted for the absurd bill of impeachment to President Trump. He won 25% in the 8-person jungle primaries. Trump’s pick, Loren Culp, came in third by 6,000 votes.
There was little doubt that President Trump could influence the GOP at the end of the night. His inability to get the field cleared so that Newhouse could be sent packing by Culp was his only problem.
