NewsBusters Podcast: Media Selling Biden’s Massive Historic Landmark Investment Victory

All manner of sales language was used by network news companies to promote the Senate’s passage of a more conservative climate and health care spending bill. To make Biden look great, it was portrayed as enormous and extremely consequential.

The bill’s original version was significantly reduced by Sen. Joe Manchin but it was still sold by the networks as being “massive and enormous.” It was an “landmark”, and was considered “historic.” NBC’s Kristen Welker touted a “massive economic plan aimed at reducing inflation.” ABC’s Maryalice Parks touted “a historic investment in clean energy and climate change, a cap on prescription drug costs for seniors.”

Even so, ABC’s Jonathan Karl was upset: “he’s getting credit for almost nothing, he’s on a roll, I mean there’s no question that Joe Biden is on a roll legislatively, on the national security front, but he’s getting no credit for it.”

Chris Christie provided a response: “They won’t forget the Inflation Reduction Act,” as you said in your interview. However, Democrats voted in favor of a Democrat bill. So they won. “Limit the White House confetti!”
