Matthew Whitaker, an ex-Acting Attorney General, appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight Monday and excoriated the Justice Department for conducting today’s raid on the residence of a former president and current rival to the sitting POTUS. As we’ve been reporting, hundreds of FBI agents descended onto Donald Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, and left with many boxes of evidence. Whitaker informed Will Cain to fill-in.
I just think this is an outrageous expansion of the FBI’s—really, I don’t know how else you say it—attack on Donald Trump for the last six years…
We’ve crossed the Rubicon to some extent. This is not from the United States of America, but banana republics.
Whitaker thinks President Joe Biden wouldn’t have been consulted regarding the raid. However, Attorney General Merrick Galrland and FBI Director Chris Wray almost certainly would have to approve the criminal investigation that led there.
Joe Biden would not be allowed to get involved in a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, which I find surprising. That would obviously be a line that shouldn’t be crossed in a criminal investigation. Yes, Merrick Galrland and Chris Wray signed off on Donald Trump’s criminal investigation.

Whitaker served the role of Acting Attorney-General from November 7, 2018 to February 14, 2019. This was after Jeff Sessions had resigned. Whitaker also claimed that the Justice Department had politicized the institution.
It’s hard not to believe that these [actions]Are politically motivated. My time at the Department of Justice was seven-and-a-half years. It’s an institution that ShouldThey cannot be trusted but have undermined this trust.
Next? Whitaker predicts that things will get even more complicated.
The American people must ask these difficult questions. Congress must ask difficult questions. Because at the end of the day, if they’re really planning to bring Donald Trump to Washington, DC in front of a Washington, DC jury and a Washington, DC judge, you know, this republic is maybe not strong enough to bear that burden ultimately. However, we’ll be watching.
FBI is in a unique area. My view is that the Department of Justice, under Democratic leadership, is moving into dangerous terrain.
Monday’s raid adds to the disturbing trend of the FBI to mount junta-style investigations and raids on Trump supporters and opponents of the Biden administration. Roger Stone, who was accused of making false statements in Congress, was taken into police custody by heavily-armed FBI agents. The FBI carried out another raid last month on Jeffrey Clark (ex-Trump Justice Department) who was forced to change his clothes. Add to the list the raid of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe’s home in November 2021, and it becomes pretty clear that what we have here is a pattern.
Our nation is at risk from falling into the hands of banana republic politicians. Un-American is to make our Justice Department a Democrat armed force that intimidates political foes. Let’s hope the Republicans actually win in the midterms.
