You might find something in a book that makes you exclaim “Just plain…” nuts.” It was likely that this is what happened when Joe Mathews wrote a column in the Ventura County Star“California should eliminate parenthood for the sake of equity”
This is a false assumption. Mathews actually worked for the Los Angeles TimesFor eight years. But, he might seem to belong in an institution after reading his arguments for equity.
California will never achieve equity unless parents are required to surrender their children.
Today’s Californians often hold up equity — the goal of a just society completely free from bias — as our greatest value. Gov. Gavin Newsom makes decisions through “an equity lens.” Institutions from dance ensembles to tech companies have publicly pledged themselves to equity.
Their promises can’t match the power of their parents.
Mothers with more education and wealth are more likely than fathers to pass these benefits to their children. This compounded privilege is a matter of generations. The result is that children from less fortunate parents have to fight for their rights, the social mobility of others has stagnated, and democracy has become corrupted. Californians are leaving the American dream more often. Recent Public Policy Institute of California surveys found that Californians believe it is impossible to make it through hard work.
And now comes Mathews “solution” that qualifies him for institutionalization.
My solution — making raising your own children illegal — is simple, and while we wait for the legislation to pass, we can act now: the rich and poor should trade kids, and homeowners might swap children with their homeless neighbors.
Yes, some people will call this ghastly or totalitarian. But my proposal is quite modest, a fusion of traditional philosophy and today’s most common political obsessions.
The act of giving your child away is considered “modest.” It is possible that the former thought it was. Los Angeles Times writer.
Also, my proposal should be politically unifying and fit hand-in-glove to the most beloved policies of both progressives as well as Trumpians.
The left’s introduction of anti-racism and gender identity in schools faces a bitter backlash from parents. Stopping parenthood will end this backlash and help dismantle white supremacy, outdated gender norms, and other prejudices. Democrats also would have the opportunity to build a new pillar of the safety net — a child-raising system called “Foster Care for All.”
Right. It’s the best way to stop parents from resentful behavior than by taking your children away.
