Remember Joe Biden’s Supreme Court reform commission? It hasn’t exactly been top of the news given the absolute implosion the administration is currently experiencing, domestically and abroad. It was an important moment in April, when President Obama signaled his willingness to crowd the courts. This is something that he has vehemently opposed previously. That was certainly the intention of the majority Democrats who expressed openness to the possibility both before and during the election.
We now have some initial notes from the commission to help us get a better idea of how it is going. Surprisingly though, it is not Republicans who are feigning surprise at the shocking news. Here’s a preview of the reaction from the left.
The report, in general, is an abject failure. This report assumes the Supreme Court of today is essentially apolitical, while worrying that any reforms without real teeth could politicize it and possibly break democracy. This outcome is a joy for Republicans. This is a great gift for the GOP. https://t.co/mhSpJgkQkL

Also, the report’s approach to its work is highly inconsistent. It avows that it will not take any positions or make any recommendations … then spends page after page criticizing Supreme Court expansion. Bias toward the status-quo doesn’t mean that you are taking sides.

Republicans actively work to overthrow the government and destroy democracy. Their legitimacy as governing partners is not a given. Treating them like such will only lead to bad results. (2/2)https://t.co/Ib0nqMCRoc

This irony is thick enough to be cut with a knife. As the left tells it, Republicans, simply by existing, pose such a grave threat to “democracy” that Democrats must…override power structures, pack the Supreme Court, and seize total control of the government? Is that logical?
If there was ever a “look in the mirror because you are actually the bad guy” moment, this is one. Democrats, including those commenting above, see themselves as virtuous protectors of “democracy,” yet they are clearly willing to undermine founding institutions and descend into abject tyranny in order to get their way. This is the false paradox that fuels far-left politics on all issues. Pervasive belief that opponents not only are wrong, but also represent dangerous evil drives a thirst for power that is unquenchable.
Is it possible for one country to exist when the other views them that way? That’s a question we’ll get to answer over the coming years, one way or another.
These are notes only from the commission and not the final judgement. They may recommend that the court be packed in the end, given its composition, which includes the inclusion of Laurence Tribe (a far-left nutjob). This is what we see: Democrats are being provoked by even the suggestion that this might not be right. That’s a scary proposition because it truly shows they have no boundaries nor tolerance for opposing viewpoints. A nation cannot prosper if one side lies so badly.
