I’m sure you have all read the great pieces last week by our Managing Editor Jennifer Van Laar on the FBI raid’s on Project Veritas journalists and its founder James O’Keefe, after O’Keefe outed the FBI’s collusion with The New York TimesHis people were the victims of raids.
O’Keefe is a personal hero of mine. If anyone has embodied the legacy of Andrew Breitbart and what he stood for, it’s him. ACORN, which took taxpayer funds to flood Chicago’s voter registry system with questionable registrations to deceive voters and win elections for Democrats, was at its peak. I lived there in Chicago. I cheered when O’Keefe took them down, and hoped he would continue with this work, especially after Breitbart passed away.
O’Keefe didn’t disappoint, and I continue to admire how he is smart about his investigations, who he chooses to target, and how he deftly crosses his Ts and dots his Is.
He’s the real deal, and I make every effort to embody that detail, documentation, and activist mentality in my own work. RedState regular readers know how to let me know what has worked and failed. I appreciate it greatly.
So, to see O’Keefe targeted by the FBI simply for being good at what he does and who he targets is frankly chilling.
What’s also chilling is what is happening with the January 6 defendants. Although I was asked a few times to go deeper with them, I don’t have the bandwidth or time to do so. So I decided not to follow up on those requests. The false narratives and untrued charges are being exposed by conservative media outlets, which I did not feel the need to repeat. I do follow the stories, and suffice to say, between the attacks on O’Keefe and Project Veritas, and what they are doing to the January 6 defendants cements the fact that we are living in a police state. In 2021, the FBI that we admired and celebrated back then isn’t the FBI of today. Although I don’t know where it all began, the corruption is evident throughout this federal law enforcement agency.
RedState contributing members, in particular those with a strong investigative skills, were often targets. Some have been victim to federal and local law enforcement. With the state of our government and the work we all do, we have no idea whether we might be in O’Keefe’s shoes sometime soon. It’s a sobering wake-up call, and a reminder to stay vigilant on all fronts. Personally, I have fake accounts that are out of the reach of Big Tech and certain firewalls and computer protocols. I also have other digital and analog means to protect my work.
My gun trainer recommended that dogs and guns be used as defenses to protect your home. I have both, and so does my family. It is not right for us to be harmed by the police because we exercise our rights to freedom speech. Unfortunately, the ship is now a wreck. It’s even worse that it might not return in certain ways.
Although there are limitations on the things we can do, it is possible to defend our freedom to express ourselves. We must report truthfully and present evidence. Not only the propaganda of the Big Tech, but also the legacy media.
