Fredo Cuomo

Chris Cuomo Once Called Himself ‘Fredo’

While Chris Cuomo appeared in a recent viral video to take great offense to being called, “Fredo,” the CNN host had no problem referring to himself by “The Godfather” character’s name in a January 2010 radio interview.

AM 970 host Curtis Sliwa asked Cuomo then about his brother Andrew’s chances of seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, the New York Post reported.

“There is a group of people — politicos — who always hint they might run, but not necessarily plunge all the way, and they are members of la Cuomo,” Sliwa said.

“Who am I, then, Fredo?” Cuomo replied, referencing the weak-willed brother of fictional mob boss Michael Corleone.

“Yes, exactly,” Sliwa said. “So you better be careful that your brother Andrew doesn’t kiss you on both cheeks and then all of a sudden they take you out on the middle of the lake and where’s Chris?”

“He kisses me plenty because he’s a great big brother,” Cuomo replied.

In an unverified video that was disseminated widely on social media Monday, Cuomo got into a heated exchange with a man he accused of calling him an “Italian slur.”

The original source of the footage appears to be “That’s The Point with Brandon,” a YouTube channel that posts videos critical of leftists. Several users on social media have referred to the man in the video as a “Trump supporter.”

“No, punk-ass bitches from the right call me ‘Fredo.’ My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN,” Cuomo is heard saying to the man in the video. “‘Fredo’ was from ‘The Godfather.’ He was a weak brother and they use that as an Italian slur- are any of you Italian? It’s a fucking insult to your people. It’s an insult to your fuckin’ people. It’s like the n-word for us. Is that a cool fucking thing?”

Conservatives reacted to the outburst by mocking Cuomo on social media.

Some users on Twitter, including the official account for President Donald Trump’s campaign, began using #FakeNewsFredo and #FredoCuomo hashtags.

Donald Trump Jr. had a message for Cuomo in the wake of his latest controversy:

Hey @ChrisCuomo, take it from me, ‘Fredo’ isn’t the N word for Italians, it just means you’re the dumb brother,” he tweeted.

And the president himself even weighed in with a dig at the CNN anchor.

“Would Chris Cuomo be given a Red Flag for his recent rant? Filthy language and a total loss of control. He shouldn’t be allowed to have any weapon. He’s nuts!” Trump tweeted.
