In an unverified video that was disseminated widely on social media Monday, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo got into a heated exchange with a man he accused of calling him an “Italian slur.”
The original source of the footage appears to be That’s The Point with Brandon, a YouTube channel that posts videos critical of leftists. Several users on social media have referred to the man in the video as a Trump supporter.
“No, punk-ass bitches from the right call me Fredo. My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN,” Cuomo is heard saying to the man in the video. “Fredo was from ‘The Godfather.’ He was a weak brother and they use that as an Italian slur ― are any of you Italian? It’s a fucking insult to your people. It’s an insult to your fuckin’ people. It’s like the n-word for us. Is that a cool fucking thing?”
“You’re a much more reasonable guy in person than you seem to be on television,” Cuomo’s rhetorical opponent quipped in reply.
The confrontation continued to escalate, with the man claiming that he believed Fredo was Cuomo’s name.

After the man asked, “What you gonna do about it?,” Cuomo threatened physical violence.
“I’ll fucking ruin your shit,” the “Cuomo Prime Time” anchor said. “I’ll fucking throw you down these stairs like a fucking punk.”
According to Fox News, the confrontation allegedly took place on Sunday.
CNN backed their primetime host in a statement to Fox News.
“Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him,” a CNN spokesperson said.
It appears YouTube has since removed the video for violating the company’s policy on “harassment and bullying.”
Chris Cuomo and the right
Conservatives have made no secret of the fact that they aren’t Cuomo’s biggest fans. The CNN host has earned the ire of the right for a range of on-air stances and statements that purportedly betray his liberal bias.
Cuomo’s advocacy for gun control has been particularly irksome to some conservatives. Earlier this year, the “Cuomo Primetime” host faced backlash after he appeared to criticize an armed rape survivor who argued in favor of gun rights for a promotional NRA video.
Last week, several conservatives expressed skepticism at the thought that Cuomo could play the role of neutral moderator for a CNN Town Hall on the topic of gun violence last Wednesday.
Cuomo’s politics have opened him up to all sorts of mockery from right-leaning figures, including President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.

Trump Jr. had a message for Cuomo in the wake of his latest controversy:
“Hey @ChrisCuomo, take it from me, ‘Fredo’ isn’t the N word for Italians, it just means you’re the dumb brother,” he tweeted.
