Musk: Twitter Must Be ‘Politically Neutral’

Elon Musk said Twitter must remain “politically neutral” in order to gain public trust.

Musk tweeted several times to express his support for freedom of expression on the platform.

“For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally,” he tweeted.

Many verified users replied to the tweet.

“If you doubt how rigged Twitter has been for far left wing blue checkmark brigade members, just look how hard they are fighting Musk endorsing political neutrality & a pledge to reduce censorship,” sports commentator Clay Travis tweeted.

Justin Amash, a former Congressman suggested Musk look into libertarianism to get rid of both sides.

“If you’d like Twitter to upset the far right and the far left equally, we libertarians are here to help,” he tweeted.

Media Research Center’s Dan Gainor added that ideological neutrality would be a “huge improvement.”

“Except everyone on the right is used to Twitter mistreating them,” he said. “So, neutral is a huge improvement.”

Musk claimed that he purchased the platform in order to promote free speech.

“Free speech, the basis of functioning democracy,” he stated. Twitter was the place where important issues concerning the future are being discussed.

He added that his goal was to make Twitter “better than ever.”

“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans,” he said. “Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

He noted, however that the majority of attacks on him since the purchase of the platform were from the left.

“Attacks are coming thick and fast, primarily from the left, which is no surprise, however I should be clear that the right will probably be a little unhappy too,” he said. “My goal is to maximize area under the curve of total human happiness, which means the ~80% of people in the middle.”
