University of California Pays for Female Students to Have Penises Made From Their Arms – Opinion

University of California San Diego hopes to assist its students in getting their bottoms right. This is why the university has created a guide.

For female students who’d like their breasts removed — or a penis made from arm skin — and for males who prefer a vagina fashioned from their penis, the system will assist.

As indicated at UCSD.edu, the Student Health Insurance Plan covers the operations as well as “hormone therapy.”

The plan also includes:

  • Vocal Training
  • The Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal for Face, Neck and Donor Site
  • Tracheal Shaves
  • Fertility preservation

For male-to-female “gender-conforming facial surgery”:

  • Brow Lift
  • Forehead Contouring
  • Malar (Cheek) Implants
  • Re-Shaping Jaws and Chins
  • Lip Shortening
  • Scalp (Hairline) Advancement
  • Rhinoplasty;

Female-to-male

  • Augmentation Thyroid Chondroplasty
  • Genioplasty and/or Chin Implant
  • Jaw Implant

For up to six trips, travel expenses can be covered. Round-trip airfare up to $250 will be covered

“Precertification” is required for most of the benefits; all is explained here.

As for what “bottom” surgeries may involve, Healthline.com profiles popular procedures:

Penile inversionIt involves using penile skin to make the neovagina. Scrotal tissue is the main component of both major and minor labia. This creates a sensate vagina.

The vaginal walls lack self-lubrication, which is a major drawback. Some common options include using some of the residual scrotal tissues as grafts to increase the depth of the vagina and using intact mucosal Urethra from the penis to line the vagina. This creates some self-lubrication.

Rectosigmoid vaginoplastyThe vaginal wall is formed by the incorporation of intestinal tissue. Sometimes, this is used together with penile inversion. If penile tissue and scrotal tissue are not available, intestinal tissue may be used.

Transgender women, who started hormone therapy in puberty but were not exposed to testosterone, often use this method.

The mucosal nature of the intestinal tissue makes it self-lubricating. For cisgender woman with short vaginal channels, this technique can also be used to rebuild them.

PhalloplastyA skin graft is used to lengthen the neopenis by 5-8 inches. Common donor areas for skin grafts are the upper back, forearm and thigh.

Every donor site is different. There are pros as well as cons. After surgery, the most erotic feeling is felt in the forearm or thighs. The back scar is usually the most visible, and it allows you to have a longer penis.

Throughout surgery, the abdomen and thigh flaps are still connected to your body.

The forearm and back sites are “free flaps” that must be entirely detached and reconnected via microsurgery.

Donor tissue can also be used to lengthen the urethra. In a subsequent surgery, a penile implant can be placed to allow for a normal erection that is suitable for penetrative sexual activity.

Here’s a video from YouTuber Cody documenting phalloplasty recovery:

The College Fix noted that UCSD doesn’t have it all. Still, it’s blazing a trail:

Nearly 115 colleges, universities and other institutions cover transgender student’s medical care. But UC San Diego’s medical school — considered one of the best in the nation — often sets the stage for best practices that other campuses follow.

UC San Diego hosts a Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues. Its webpage touts UC San Diego physicians who co-lead the Center for Gender-Affirming Care at Rady’s Children Hospital, which offers pediatric transgender services.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of patients being seen,” Dr. Maja Marinkovic, professor of pediatrics at the UC San Diego School of Medicine and the center’s co-director, told the UCSD News Center in 2016.

In a relatively short time, the public education system has seen a dramatic transformation. Universities have recently thrown their hat into the ring in a variety of ways.

It’s an all-new world — especially, perhaps, out west. The rest of America will soon catch up.
