Turning From Darkness to the Light of Jesus

It just so happened that someone committed suicide. Someone took their life somewhere out there. As you read this article, another person will have just taken their own life. Someone in America is likely to kill themselves one hundred thirty-two more times today.

Somebody will hang himself. Somebody will kill themselves. Somebody will be able to cut themselves. Somebody will take pills, drown, swerve in oncoming traffic, or even jump to their death. They will all take irreversible, permanent action to resolve a temporary problem. Many will act out of despair.

Unfortunately, the pandemic is not helping. A striking scene is found in Genesis’ second chapter. It relates the JudeoChristian creation account. After creating all other things, the God of The Universe then creates us. Man is made in His likeness and image. Adam, Adam the first, enjoys walking beside the God who created all. The eternal God will walk beside the man and share his thoughts. God tells us that it is wrong for a man to be left alone. I will provide a companion and helper. Genesis 2:18.

God knew that man should not be left alone. People require people. Only if politicians and our public health officials had God’s wisdom. We have been separating ourselves from each other for two years. Families fight over holiday plans, vaccinations, and the use of masks. We all find excuses to judge or dislike one another, and keep our distance from each other. It isn’t our intention to behave that way.

We have retreated into our loneliness and dwelled upon the void and the nihilistic age. And the perfect we see in social media is the carefully curated life of others. This flawlessly curated life has a frozen smile and wink that conceals the pain, despair, and misery of the lives. One of my friends had this well-planned life. The woman had an extremely high-end job as a lawyer. The fancy car she drove was hers, and the house where she lived was also hers. She wore all the latest fashions and owned the expensive clothes. The cool thing about her was that she lit up the room. The police discovered her body in a parking lot after she took some pills. It was easy to forget the pain and suffering she endured.

It gets worse this time of the year. The days get shorter, colder, and more dark. As we wake up with the dawn, and head out to spend time with our friends after work, it is dark. Seasonal affective disorders are a very real condition. Also, there’s the stress of Christmas — financial baggage and mental baggage all woven together by a desire for others to be happy.

Social media allows for jealousy, covetousness or jealousy, which can lead to envy and other negative emotions like depression, covetousness, jealousy, and covetousness. Social media is far less well-known and even more dangerous than it appears. It allows us to isolate ourselves. It allows us to connect with others online that we do not even know. They become our digital friends and we can communicate with them. Digital figments have made us forget about real people. It was not our intention to live alone. Our phones are not intended to be our only companions. For us to feel, see and smell the world around us we need to physically be together.

We have the strength to overcome despair and darkness. The time is near for a child. His mother will give birth in misery. Fight for your life. Wisdom is the key to success. And die innocent in a shameful, painful way. Because he is interested in a personal relationship with you, he can conquer death. He can help you find peace within yourself and turn to him. He can heal the sick, restore spirits and console those in need. It is the real Christmas, and it will come soon. The world can bring despair. God offers light. Jesus will help you if your despair is overwhelming. You will find the light within darkness.
