NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams Puts Would-Be Rioters on Notice – Opinion

Eric Adams, New York City’s Mayor-elect, is standing firm on his anticrime stance. He issued a warning to violent actors at the last event and doubled his hard-on-crime rhetoric.

“Not my city,” Adams said during a Police Athletic League event at the Harvard Club. In a fiery speech that seemed to be aimed largely at Black Lives Matter leader Hawk Newsome, Adams said: “We’re not going to surrender to those who are saying, ‘We’re going to burn down New York.’ Not my city,”

Last month, after a meeting with the mayor-elect, Newsome told reporters there would be “riots, fire and bloodshed,” if he reinstated a controversial plainclothes policing program.

Adams issued an stern warning for outside activists who may be involved in Newsome’s destruction. “We’re not going to have a city where anarchists come from outside our city and go into a community such as Queens and destroy the community for their own selfish needs or desires,” he said.

He spoke in front of a large audience that included many Republicans, who applauded his remarks.

It New York Post reported:

Former NYPD Chief of Police received a warm welcome from the predominantly Republican crowd. This included John Catsimatidis billionaire, Ed Cox, ex-New York Republican Party Chairman, Tony Danza (actor) and Bill Bratton (ex-NYPD Commissioner).

Adams praised Bratton for slashing the city’s murder rate, and for his “broken windows” policing style that cracked down on quality-of-life issues like graffiti to make the city safer from violent crime.

Adams made a few slurs at his Democratic opponent in the primary. He described them as anti-police, anti-business. “I burn candles and say prayers and Hail Marys that those other characters were not elected to be mayor right now,” he said. He bashed those who “were talking about disarming police” and “running out business people from our city.”

Adams also attacked Bill de Blasio as the current mayor, whom Adams has had past disputes with. “How do you have a city that demonizes high-income earners?” he said.

His platform was unapologetically anti-crime and pro-law enforcement won him the election. New York City residents who are already feeling the effects of rising crime rates felt his message. This was an enormous blow for progressive elites, who like de Blasio seem to rather protect criminals than enforce the law. It was also a repudiation of the nationwide “Defund the Police” movement, which has contributed to the rise in crime.

If Adams’ election is any indication, the progressive crowd has much to fear when it comes to gaining power.
