The day after news broke that Al Qaeda leader and 9/11 plotter Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a CIA drone strike approved by President Biden, the cackling coven of ABC’s The ViewThey danced about their cauldrons and said, without any evidence, that Republicans were unwilling to kill terrorist leaders while only Democratic presidents are. They also threw a potent double standard into their brew by whining about who did and didn’t get credit for killing Osama bin Laden.
After playing a soundbite of President Biden’s address announcing the killing of al-Zawahiri, Joy Behar blurted out that “He’s like Liam Neeson” in the Taken series. “I will find you and I will kill you,” she quipped.
Whoopi Goldberg continued by noting how Biden left hundreds of Americans in Afghanistan, and promoting the failed withdrawal that saw American servicemen killed. Her next mistake is to suggest that Republicans won’t kill terrorist leaders.
You know what? I want to make this point. Perhaps this is too long. Please tell me. Some people may be happy, while others are unhappy. This was done by a Democratic president, and not a Republican. Like Osama Bin Laden was taken out by a Democratic President. The Democratic President got us out Afghanistan, and now he is supporting Ukraine rather than withholding assistance.
“You know, this is what a president is supposed to do. Nobody knew anything about it other than the people who needed to know,” she added.
Goldberg’s fabricated assertion was not corrected by anyone. And this was especially ridiculous since the cast openly decried when former President Trump approved the killings of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Qasem Soleimani of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
This brings us to Behar’s rank of double-standard bathing.
Recalling “when Obama took out Osama,” Behar whined about how Republicans like Senator Mitch McConnell (KY), then-VP candidate Sarah Palin, Reince Priebus, and Rick Santorum “thanked the troops” instead of Obama. “So, they could not thank bring themselves to thank Obama for that. And I wonder, you know, how many will thank Biden for this moment,”She laughed.
But as NewsBusters has documented, when al-Baghdadi was killed in a raid by U.S. special forces under Trump, Behar couldn’t decide if the world was better with him in it or with Trump:
GOLDBERG
BEHAR: Trump, Baghdadi or Who? Which?
Behar was horrified when Soleimani caught a warhead in his forehead.
Elizabeth Warren is running to become president. She claims President Trump ordered Soleimani’s murder in an effort to divert attention from impeachment. She’s not the only one saying that. This is what they call “wag the dog”, which means you start a civil war in order to distract from the fact that your government wants to impeach you.
If she can prove that, one might argue that Biden authorized the strike to distract him from the many problems plaguing his administration, such as inflation, recession and the anniversary the failed Afghanistan withdrawal. Also, she must answer the question of why al Zahiri suddenly was able to travel to Kabul from Afghanistan in one the wealthier neighborhoods, Biden.

[Clip of President Biden’s address announcing killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri]
JOY BEHAR: He’s like Liam Neeson, right? “I will find you and I will kill you.”
WHOOPI GOLDBERG : This was a big deal. And – I mean, does this not show that, you know, with drones, we apparently don’t need boots on the ground to target terrorists.
You know what? I want to make this point. Perhaps this is too long. Please tell me. Some people are happier than others. It was a Democratic president who did it, not a Republican. Like Osama Bin Laden was taken out by a Democratic president. The Democratic President got Afghanistan out and now supports Ukraine, instead of withholding assistance.
I – You know, this is what a president is supposed to do. It was only those who were required to know that knew.
BEHAR: Yeah.
SUNNY HOOSTIN: No.
GOLDBERG : That’s the way it is supposed to be.
HOSTIN: I believe you mean to refer to the fact these are Democrats who are doing it. You know, the take always is ‘Democrats are weak. Democrats don’t want to go to war. Democrats won’t do this kind of thing.’ And I think that does, in a sense, change a perception about Joe Biden.
And I read an article, I believe it was in CNN – on cnn.com, that talked about how specific Biden was, how granular he was when getting the Intel and making sure that this was the right move. Because he was determined to protect civilians. This is what I think shows that he is not just a strong leader; he also has compassion. Right?
BEHAR: Yeah.
HOSTIN – I also think that we should have this.

BEHAR: So – you know – it’s very hard to – you know – um – I just wanted to point out that when Obama took out Osama, his ratings rose to 52 percent. His immediate success was remarkable and lasted for about five weeks.
But people like Mitch McConnell, and Sarah Palin, and – um – remember Reince Priebus.
HOSTIN: Yeah.
BEHAR: This was always a weird name.
[Laughter]
I don’t know what it means. It’s something about –
SARA HAINES: Joy digresses.
BEHAR: Sorry.
Sarah Palin expressed her gratitude to the troops. Obama is unrecognized. Um – um— Rick Santorum, remember him? He died. He made a statement “all those involved for this historic triumph.” So, they could not thank bring themselves to thank Obama for that. It is hard to imagine how many Biden will say thank you for that moment.
While Democrats may not be militaristic as they claim, both parties are. Both parties are militaristic. If you look over the past century, it’s both parties that start wars.
HOSTIN: I think that’s true. The Democrats seem to be week for some reason. It is clear that the Democrats are not willing to get involved.
BEHAR: Do you know the reason? Because Democrats – this is my opinion – are more compassionate, they’re more interested in helping people in their daily lives. Republicans want to give tax breaks for wealthy individuals. So, that makes them look weak in some peoples’ eyes. This makes them seem strong to me.
