RedState reported Sunday that the Biden administration was currently developing a plan to send thousands in troops, an air force and a naval battle unit to Eastern Europe to counter Russian aggression. That comes as Vladimir Putin’s country amasses over 100,000 troops on the border of Ukraine, threatening an invasion. While the United States began to evacuate its diplomatic personnel, it also informed the Americans present that they were on their way.
The rest of NATO responded to tensions in the region by a very embarrassing manner, shortly after US announcements of potential military commitments.
Russia has deployed over 100,000 troops to Ukraine’s border, including Belarus. Moscow has announced that over 140 warships and 50 aircraft were to participate in the upcoming naval exercises. This includes the Mediterranean, where USS Harry Truman will be conducting NATO drills.

NATO is a cooperative organization. US taxpayers pay gobs of money to “protect” the Europeans from Russia. But when push comes to shove, it’s the US that sends in thousands of troops and dozens of ships and warplanes to act as a deterrent. Meanwhile, the best Denmark and Holland can come up with is “here’s two fighter jets and a cargo ship.” You can bet any troop deployments from France will number in just the hundreds as well.
Meanwhile, Germany isn’t doing anything at all. They are actually actively trying to subvert NATO, even though they are a member. Russia is empowering and enriching themselves through energy deals.
What’s the response to such abuse? The Biden administration and the American press pretend like it’s the US that has actually been unfair to the Europeans. It’s asinine, and these latest events prove just how right Donald Trump was about NATO. It’s a dysfunctional group of free-loading nations that refuse to provide for their own defense, instead, demanding a country across an ocean do it for them.
There is no reason that these European NATO countries can’t put together a large enough force to serve as a deterrent to Russia in place of yet more US deployments. The US mainland is not under threat but the European mainland. The Europeans are the ones who do all of their heavy lifting.
Trump’s attempt to make these NATO countries weak and spineless to take the initiative was met with a rebuke. He had been accused of hurting our alliances. How is this working out? The same results are being seen in the revitalized alliances created under Biden. Trump did get Germany to spend a bit more and prevented them from being energy dependent on Russia.
Next Republican President must take a tough line with NATO and reform the alliance. The US is losing patience with the system that allows the US to do all the work while Eurotrash can only manage a handful of aircraft. This arrangement cannot be sustained.
