The Growing Popularity of Bully Breeds

Dogs that are descended from crosses with bulldogs are known as bully breeds. There are dozens of dog breeds that fall into this categorization, such as the Staffordshire terrier, bull terrier, and bullmastiff. Pitbulls are another sub classification of bully breeds. There are 18 million canines in the United States that are counted as either pitbulls or bully breeds, which is about 20% of all dogs in the United States. In twenty-one states, including Utah, New York, Alaska, and Georgia, they are the most popular breed.

Bully breed’s popularity doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The French bulldog was deemed the most registered breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2022, finally surpassing the Labrador Retriever, which has held the title for 31 years. Many other bully breeds are popular among dog owners as well, including bulldogs, Rottweilers, and boxers.

Since they were initially developed in the 1800s, bully breeds have expanded over the globe and are still being newly registered today. The Dogue de Bordeaux in France (2008), the Cane Corso in Italy (2010), and the Dogo Argentino in Cordoba (2020) are among the most recent. Bully breed’s popularity won’t be disappearing anytime soon, because of their adorable looks and good natured temperament.
