The View host Sunny Hostin scolded Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers for criticizing the “woke” left this week. The offended left-wing host claimed the term shouldn’t be mocked because being “woke” was actually a virtue.
The show hosts were discussing the NFL player contracting covid and revealing he was unvaccinated after sitting out Sunday’s game. In a podcast appearance, Rodgers pushed back against the “woke mob” for pushing for his cancellation from sponsorships and the excessive media criticism of him, while other high profile athletes have also been silent on their status. Rodgers’ comments earned him the fury of ViewSunny Hostin (who has also been recently interviewed) went after CNN for using “woke” pejoratively.) “Tolerant” leftists want to punish anyone who mocks their totalitarian impulses.
She complained that State Farm hadn’t “done the right thing” and canceled him as an ambassador yet:
In times like these, corporate citizens must be strong and courageous. State Farm is disappointing me.
Hostin then scolded the football player for his “despicable” “disgusting” criticism of woke leftists, (who were only more enlightened than the rest of us, after all):
I think Aaron Rodgers needs to realize that when you look in the dictionary, ‘woke’ as an adjective means you’re alert to racial prejudice and discriminationIt is. It’s something that was born in the African American community. This is a very disrespectful and blatant disregard for the original meaning of the term.MLK was also quoted by him, as well as Martin Luther King’s speech. He even quoted a letter sent from Birmingham jail that Martin Luther King had written. This is, to my mind, pretty grossThat is what I think he feels about it, as well as the feelings of other quarterbacks.
The View Often, host balks at harsh criticisms of the far-left. She often criticizes the term “cancel culture” preferring to use euphemisms “accountability” or “consequence culture” instead. Later in the program, her own “woke politics” actually came up. Saturday Night Live comedian Michael Che. Che and Hostin claimed that American flags represented racism, making blacks feel unwanted. You have to wonder what the feelings of all those black veterans who fought for that flag were.
Talking about Che’s comedy special, Hostin raved over his commentary about feeling like a “visitor” as a black man in America. When she asked what he meant, he replied that ‘visitor’. Che said he felt like the law didn’t treat him justly but he also felt persecuted when he visited certain neighborhoods.
“You talked about a lot of — You shouldn’t go into an area if there are many American flags. and you’re, like,” she prodded.
“If you see a lot of American flags as a black man, you’re, like, oh, Lord,”Che replied, “Alarmed.” Hostin agreed: “It was something I said on the show, and it got me so much hatred on Twitter!”
“It’s true. There has never been an American flag seen in a black neighborhood. You’ll see more Puerto Rican flags in a black neighborhood,” Che said to Hostin’s agreement.
Then she asks, “Why is the average person finding the woke Left, offensive and mockable?”

SUNNY HOSTIN: I think that what’s been very disappointing for me is companies like State Farm who, who– issued a statement basically saying that they aren’t going to um, stop having Aaron Rodgers be their brand representative, and um they said that Aaron Rodgers ‘has been a great ambassador for our company for much of the past decade. While we don’t support some of the statements that he has made, we respect his right to have his own personal point of view.’
JOY BEAR: They’re still urging people to get the vaccine. They want both.
HOSTIN: Both sides want it, so I believe we have to be good corporate citizens during a crisis of public health. We need people who can stand up for the rights and defend the person doing the right thing.
That is why he was chosen. You can make real changes, I believe.State Farm has disappointed me. I’m also disappointed in Aaron Rodgers of course, for all those reasons, but to also sort of claim he’s being canceled and the use of the word ‘woke.’
BEHAR is right.
