Trump Announces Sarah Huckabee Sanders Is Leaving Administration at the End of June

President Donald Trump said Thursday that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is leaving his administration at the end of the month.

Trump’s announcement came by way of an afternoon tweet.

“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,” Trump tweeted.. “She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”

CNN’s Kaitlin Collins said in a tweet Thursday that she’d recently been told by sources that Sanders was open to the idea of running for governor of Arkansas.

Last year, sources told CBS News that Sanders planned exit the White House at the end of 2018.

Following Trump’s announcement, Vice President Mike Pence thanked Sanders for her service.

“Thank you to @PressSec Sarah Sanders for her service to our Administration & our nation!” Pence tweeted. “She’s a patriot who worked tirelessly every day to deliver on @POTUS‘ America First Agenda. @SecondLady and I wish Sarah, Bryan & the kids all the best in their future endeavors! THANK YOU!”

Liberals and Sarah Sanders

Among conservatives, Sanders was widely admired for her blunt, no-nonsense style and willingness to smack down media figures and reporters.

In March, a relaxed-looking Sanders casually blasted reporters outside the White House following news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation cleared Trump of colluding with Russia. Sanders said Democrats and the media should be “embarrassed” by their behavior in the last two years.

Liberals, meanwhile, excoriated Sanders for being a mouthpiece for Trump and accused her on various occasions of lying to justify the president’s rhetoric. Their reactions to the news that Sanders was leaving her post at the end of the month reflected past antipathy toward the White House press secretary.

“Sarah Huckabee Sanders handled her job like a drunk person at a traffic stop denying she’s in a car at all,” tweeted Crooked Media’s Louis Vyrtel.

“Good riddance, liar,” tweeted Democratic Coalition co-founder and prominent #Resistance figure Scott Dworkin.
