When Sagar Surana speaks about finance, he doesn’t begin with balance sheets or ledgers. He
starts with values. For him, integrity isn’t a buzzword; it’s the very framework through which he
understands leadership and strategy. “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is
watching,” he often quotes C.S. Lewis, a philosophy that has quietly shaped his career across
two continents.
Born in India and now living in Los Angeles, Sagar’s career began in accounting, finance, and
compliance. Those early years shaped his disciplined approach and gave him the foundation to
navigate complex business environments. As he grew, his vision expanded beyond compliance
toward strategy, valuation, and cross-border advisory.
At Renfro India, where he served as Chief Financial Officer, Sagar spearheaded a sweeping
financial transformation that multiplied revenue fivefold, from $10 million to $50 million. He led
the rapid rollout of SAP enterprise systems across seven modules in just seven months, a feat
of both operational precision and strategic clarity. He also helped secure one of India’s earliest
Unilateral Advance Pricing Agreements with the Central Board of Direct Taxes, a milestone that
advanced transparency and trust in corporate governance.
Yet Sagar’s ambitions extended beyond a single enterprise. As Co-Founder of one of India’s
first registered valuation entities, he oversaw projects valued up to two hundred fifty million
dollars each, contributing to a multi-billion-dollar portfolio across industries. His initiatives also
supported cross-border fundraising exceeding one hundred million dollars, proving his ability to
unite technical expertise with a global perspective.
His decision to relocate to the United States marked the beginning of a deeper evolution. While
pursuing his Master of Accounting at Tulane University, Sagar learned to blend the structured
rigor of Indian finance with the innovation-driven mindset of American advisory practices. “India
taught me discipline and structure,” he reflects. “The U.S. taught me adaptability and vision.”
That balance between analytical precision and strategic creativity now defines his approach.
Today, Sagar’s expertise spans accounting, compliance, valuation, advisory, and cross-border
collaboration. Currently working with a fast-growing start-up in Los Angeles, he applies his
multifaceted background to strengthen governance frameworks and build scalable systems that
enable innovation. His global outlook allows him to anticipate regulatory, cultural, and strategic
differences across markets, a crucial skill in an era of financial globalization.
Beyond his executive roles, Sagar is deeply committed to education and mentorship. As a
former lecturer at Pune University and mentor to young professionals, he has consistently
emphasized that true leadership in finance stems from understanding both systems and people.
His published research on Internal Control, Business Resilience, and Strategic Management
reflects his belief that ethical finance can be both principled and progressive.
“Growth doesn’t happen in straight lines,” Sagar often says. “It happens when you stay curious,
keep learning, and keep moving forward.” This mindset continues to shape his journey as he
builds advisory bridges between the United States and India, promoting partnerships grounded
in innovation and integrity.
For Sagar Surana, finance has never been just about numbers; it’s about purpose, trust, and
transformation. He represents a new generation of leaders proving that in the right hands,
finance is not merely an instrument of profit but a vehicle for progress.
