Russian Attack Aircraft With Nuclear Weapons On Board Violate Swedish Air Space as Sweden Mulls NATO Membership – Opinion

One thing Vladimir Putin’s premeditated and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has accomplished is to strip away any illusion that Russia is much more than an ineffectual bully. Putin’s repeated threats of nukes is a prime example. It started very early (Putin Orders Russian Nuclear Forces on Alert Status as His Ukrainian Adventure Stalls), and Biden inexplicably fell for it (Joe Biden’s Defense Department Cancels a Long-Scheduled Missile Test Because of Offending the Russians They Need for an Iran Nuclear Deal). hier).| here),

Maria Zarahova (Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman) threatened to launch a nuclear attack on Sweden and Finland if the two countries joined NATO.

Russia threatened “military and political consequences” against Finland and Sweden on Friday if they attempted to join NATO.

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned against other countries attempting to join NATO after Russia started a war with Ukraine Thursday.

“Finland and Sweden should not base their security on damaging the security of other countries and their accession to NATO can have detrimental consequences and face some military and political consequences,” Zakharova said in a viral clip of a press conference.

Later the ministry posted the same threat on its Twitter. Finland and Sweden have given significant military and humanitarian support to Ukraine since Russia invaded.

An incident that occurred shortly after the threat has just now made it into the media.

It has been revealed that two Russian aircrafts, which violated Swedish airspace in the beginning of this month, were equipped with nuclear weapons.

According to TV4 Nyheterna, the flyover at Gotland Island on March 2 was an intentional act to intimidate Sweden.

Four planes took off from Kaliningrad, a Russian base for air transport.

Two Sukhoi 24 fighter planes were used to attack the aircraft, and two Sukhoi 27 fighters jets escorted them.

According to TV4 Nyheter sources it was two attack aircrafts that were equipped with nuclear weapons.

About a minute elapsed before Sweden was invaded.

The country’s air force deployed two JAS 39 Gripen which took pictures of the intruders.

According to Swedish media, it was only then that it became clear that Russian aircraft were equipped with nuclear weapons.

‘This is a signal to Sweden that we have nuclear weapons and we could also consider using them,’ military strategic expert Stefan Ring told TV4 Nyheter.

‘We assess it as a conscious action. This is especially concerning because [Russia] is a warring country,’ added Air Force Chief Carl-Johan Edström.

‘I can not rule out incorrect navigation, but everything indicates that it was a deliberate act. That they violated Sweden’s borders.’

We’ve known about the violation of airspace since it happened. But, it’s a first for us to learn about the nuclear weapons.

Three things are worth noting. First and foremost, the decision to fly nuclear-armed aircraft into another nation’s airspace cannot be a mistake, and it is probably an event unique in the military history of the world. It is also confirmed that the Swedish Chief Air Force didn’t deny the tale. The third reason that I know of to encourage the Swedes is their refusal to release this information publicly.

There are many reasons that Sweden and Finland should join NATO. A few weeks ago, I posted on the subject in Putin’s Threats to Sweden and Finland Are Much More Real Than They Are Being Given Credit For. That fear has spiked in the wake of Putin’s war in Ukraine.

That post also points out that Finland, Sweden and Estonia, although they do not belong to any military alliances, are bordered by Russia and in an area Russia seeks to take over. The USSR was unable to do this, but it seems that this childish move may convince Sweden or Finland to become NATO members.
