Ruhle Frets GOP ‘Nonsense’ Deprived America of Knowing Jackson Better

This Thursday The 11th HourStephanie Ruhle, MSNBC’s host on the show, lamented how Republicans distracted Americans with “nonsense”, and stopped Americans from meeting Supreme Court Justice Ketanji brown Jackson.

As Yamiche Alcindor, NBC News Washington correspondent Yamiche Alcindor gushed about Judge Jackson with praises from her friends, she expressed immense sympathy.

Jonathan Capehart claimed that Republicans are “painting all peoples of color as radicals” and dismissed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comments on the confirmation, calling them “barnyard expletive”.

Alcindor was also the host for PBS’s Supreme Court. She recalled her friend from college who had predicted that she would be on Jackson’s Supreme Court bench. Washington WeekShe cited her friends as describing her as the star of their group.

Ruhle continued by complaining about Judge Jackson’s need to answer tough questions from Republicans.

Alcindor agreed with Ruhle on the premise:

Some people feel that the Supreme Court nomination process for her was difficult and messy. Nina Simmons was a close friend and said that it hurt her to see her friend answer questions regarding Critical Race Theory. She also felt sad that her friend was being accused of softening on criminality and softening on images of children being sexually abused. They said that this was an awkward moment.

Alcindor also cited Cory Booker as a Democratic senator.

However, they bring up Cory Booker and say that her friends and family really appreciated her giving that pep-talk to her. She said that Senator Booker was a great American, and that she did not have to worry about anything. In some ways it’s true that people think the nation should have known more about her in the confirmation process. But she will be sitting on the bench for many years and she’ll then be able learn more about herself.

Ruhle showed Ruhle a clip showing Senator McConnell asserting the Republican questioning on Judge Jackson was done in a respectful manner and then asked Capehart his reaction. Capehart, who hosts MSNBC’s weekend program on weekends, attacked McConnell as well as other Republicans. He began his response with: “I believe that’s — it — It’s an exletive from the barnyard.” Let me just say it. That’s what Minority Leader McConnell said. That …” is unacceptable to me.

He continued by declaring that Republicans paint all persons of color, especially blacks as radicals.

MSNBC’s The 11th Hour With Stephanie Ruhle

April 7, 2022

Eastern, 11:08

YAMICHE ALCINDOR: I talked to one friend (of Ketanji Brown Jackson), Antoinette Coakley, who predicted when they were in college at Harvard and Harvard Law together that she would be the first black woman on the Supreme Court. It was not only because she is brilliant, but because she had empathy with others. She also said she knew that even as a teenager, she was interested in understanding the perspectives of other people.

They also stated that she was the leader of the group due to — in some states — she chatted with her group today. She said she is supportive of her peers, shows support for her family, and loves the people she loves.

STEPHANIE ROHLE: This is amazing. I am certain I didn’t have friends in college with the Supreme Court justices I predicted. Based on what you now know, and spending time in her chat group, are you sure that the nation missed out on discovering who Judge Jackson was because of all the rhetoric around her nomination, all the ridiculousness at the hearings.

ALCINDOR (Well, that’s what I will tell you — she’s got at least 30 more years — 30 more years than she should have because she’ll be sitting on the bench for many years to come. This is what Democrats expect. She’s 51. Some people feel that the Supreme Court nomination process was difficult and messy. Nina Simmons, a friend of Nina Simmons told me she felt pained when her friend had to answer questions on Critical Race Theory and was accused of being too soft on crimes and on material that shows children being sexually abused.

They said that this was an awkward moment. However, they bring up Cory Booker and say that their family and friends appreciated Senator Booker giving them that pep talk. She said she was a great American, and that God has her back. In some ways it’s true that people think the nation should have known more about her in the confirmation process. But she will be sitting on the bench for many years and she’ll then be able learn more about herself.

RUHLE Fox News asked him to tell us what he said tonight.

BRET BAIER FOX NEWS – Do you regret the tone used during this process of nomination?

MITCH MCCONNELL,SENATE MINORITY LEADER: The point is ideology, not politics. She was handled with respect. We examined her record. (editing leap) She didn’t agree to join Justice Ginsburg in denoncing court packing. (Editing jump) Her clear and proven record of sendingencing, especially in child pornography case cases — was well below guidelines. This judge can be described as a judicial activist.

RUHLE: Jonathan said that she was being treated with respect. He did not see an issue. You think that is a great idea.

JONATHAN CAPEHART: Associate Editor It’s a barnyard expletive, I will just say it. It’s not unusual for Minority Leader McConnell to say what he did. I find that appalling that he would echo some of the false allegations against Judge Jackson when it came to the child pornography cases, leaving out the fact that Republican-appointed federal judges made similar rulings to Judge Jackson, but it’s all part, Stephanie, of the larger gambit for Republicans to paint Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as some kind of radical — as someone who’s outside the mainstream.

It’s very easy for Republicans do this because they portray all people of colour, especially black people, as radical. They paint them as soft on crime and child predators. And then, when Critical Race Theory is not relevant to what she will be doing here at the D.C. Court of Appeals, it doesn’t have anything to do with her work on the Supreme Court. It is shameful to make Judge Jackson out as a radical when they have such a record.
