Pro-censorship leftist individuals and news outlets used contradictions, deceptions and convoluted rhetoric in their quest to defend the Biden administration’s new Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board.
Free-speech advocates have been slamming the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) since it was announced in late April, but leftists have scrambled to show the censorship board in a positive light. Media Matters for America associate research director Kayla Gogarty accused DGB critics of spreading “conspiracy theories” in an Insider Her story was quoted. Romantist Stephen King tweeted support for the board’s controversial executive director. Others who supported censorship and news media tried the same tactics.
Insider A puff piece was written to defend the DGB. “Right-wing politicians and pundits have misleadingly framed the group as a propaganda arm,” Insider claimed. The piece targeted various critics of the board, quoting the rampantly partisan Media Matters’ Gogarty to make its point. “Conservatives push bad-faith attacks under the guise of ‘free speech’ in response to anything that they perceive will stymie their ability to push falsehoods and conspiracy theories,” Gogarty blathered. Media Matters has previously been given five dollars by George Soros (leftist billionaire).
White House spokesperson Jen Psaki laughably claimed the DGB’s mission would be “protecting privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties and the First Amendment.” Psaki did not explain how a board specifically formed to examine speech could possibly be protecting the First Amendment.
Social media has been used by some leftists to support the board. Horror fiction writer King seems to have an affinity for scary individuals–including DGB Executive Director and self-proclaimed “Mary Poppins of disinformation” Nina Jankowicz. “I stand with Nina Janckowicz,” King tweetedThis has drawn backlash against free speech advocates.
Others tried to defend what was inadmissible. Protocol published an article trying to defend and attack the DGB. This outlet in particular defended Jankowicz and disinformation that she spread while downplaying the Hunter Biden laptop controversy. “Bad faith arguments abound, most of them focused on Jankowicz,” Protocol claimed.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post Editorial Board published a piece headlined, “Ignore the hysteria over the Disinformation Governance Board.” The Post even claimed that the DGB could do a “great deal of good.”
Finally, the Soros-funded Poynter Institute defended the censorship board in an article that quoted liberally from Biden administration officials and said the board “will share best practices for countering disinformation purveyed by enemies of the US.”
