Police say a Cedar Rapids, Michigan man kidnapped a woman and forced her to watch a TV miniseries about slavery “so she could better understand her racism.”
Robert Lee Noye, 52, was arrested Monday after making the unnamed woman watch “Roots,” a nine-hour historical drama that first aired on ABC in 1977, The Gazette reported.
“Roots,” based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Alex Haley, traces the author’s ancestral lineage from the time of slavery through the post-Civil War era.
According to a criminal complaint, Noye said he would “kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago” if she didn’t remain seated and watch the program.
