It was presented by fourteen Republican senators. After just one hour, the new 80-page Senate gun control bill was released. Senators Lindsey Graham and Mitt Romney gave their approval. Mike Caputo and John Cornyn were the leading negotiators on the legislation. They worked with Democrats to create it.
RedState covered some of the most troubling provisions, including its funding of “red flag” laws while dumping billions into the partisan DOJ. Cornyn, among others, promised that the money to “harden” schools was missing from a cursory examination. That was supposed to be the big “win” for Republicans in this bill, but all I see are payoffs to federal bureaucracies and a few billion for community anti-violence programs.
That didn’t stop the “positive vibes” on the Senate floor, though. Cornyn actually previewed the next act of betrayal, while she yucks it up alongside Sen. Kyrsten Snema: Immigration.

As I wrote in my initial critique of this push for a gun control bill, I’m at a total loss as to why any Republican, even those as unreliable as Cornyn, Graham, and the rest, would think stabbing GOP voters in the back is a good strategy headed into November. Is it their desire to win? It might actually be best to assume that they do. Is there another explanation for such political inidiocy?
Joe Biden is currently the president with the lowest approval rating in recent polling. The Republican turnout is outstripping the Democrat’s in primary elections. Mayra Flores is now a Congresswoman and has even won a Texas blue district previously held by Democrats for 100+ years. And this is the time to “compromise” on gun control and immigration?
However, this is not an acceptable policy strategy. Gun control legislation is full of useless fluff, which would not prevent mass shootings. When it inevitably fails to do so, Democrats will simply push for confiscation having the leverage and justification to say “See, your ideas didn’t work.”
No matter how much you give to immigration, the Biden administration has no plans of enforcing the law. The problems there aren’t just a financial problem. These are policy issues, which the president is actively trying to subvert. Therefore, why would Democrats give Democrats the amnesty they desire on security when this will have no effect on the other side?
This is nonsense from every angle. Voters need to speak out. Your elected representatives should be contacted and encouraged to speak up. Capitulations like these will have a profoundly detrimental impact on the future. These capitulations must be challenged.
