On MSNBC’s ReidOutJoy Reid was obsessed with the Jan 6 Capitol Riots. She attempted to tie it in with the rise in political violence in the United States and the “attack on democracy” which conveniently left out any leftist political violence that we’ve seen lately aimed at pro-life clinics.
During her discussion with liberal Republican strategist Matthew Dowd, she asked him for advice for the media in dealing with Republicans who she described as violent “MAGA Republicans.”
Reid laughably claimed the “media did mainstream the Tea Party” which is news to members of the Tea Party movement who were active in 2009 and 2010 when the movement was viciously attacked by the leftist media on an almost daily basis.
Not to let the facts get in the way, she claimed the media “doesn’t want to be in a war with the Republican Party. Let’s be honest. In general, the media does not want to be at war with the Republicans.” Regular NewsBusters readers know that is a lie.
Dowd insisted that media be impartial. He wailed that we can’t sit by and say “the Republicans stand for autocracy and Democrats stand for democracy and let’s see how this game plays out”
Dowd continued to demand that half of the country be treated as a threat by democracy and he cried:
We have to inform the voters about what the threat is, Joy. We tell them all about inflation, job growth, and hurricanes. And we also tell them how tornadoes can affect them. Wildfire is another example of the attack on democracy.
Reid then jumped in and made the laughable claim that “Adam Kinzinger is as conservative as it gets. He and I would have a disagreement on virtually everything political if we sat down together. He’s getting death threats to his little kid and his wife.” While nobody should be getting death threats, to say that Kinzinger is as conservative as it gets when he’s recently come out in support of gun control is delusional.

Eastern at 7:41.50MATTHEW DOWD. The first thing that the Democratic Party must do is recognize we are in a completely different time and different situation. Their old plans to talk about 22 policies, what their plan for X, Z, and Y should be thrown out. The normal time is not ours. They have to realize that a culture war and a war for America has been launched and it’s been launched for 10 or 15 years and the Democrats keep trying to think they’re gonna organize the kitchen at the barracks while this war is going on. Democrats must believe in this war and speak like it. This is the battle for America’s soul and heart. They must realize that. It is not about a rate of education or tax, that’s irrelevant. The heart and soul is what it comes down to and Democrats must run the campaign in the same way as the Republicans.
JOY RID: Is that what you believe? Give us some suggestions for the media. Because, as you all know, mainstreaming the Tea Party was a success and the media wants to do so again. Let’s be very clear. The media doesn’t want to go to war with Republicans. While they want to do the right thing, both sides must be treated equally. This is when you became a Republican strategist. As a lifelong Democrat, we have always agreed on everything. What is the best way to get both of us out of this?
DOWD: Well, I mean I think that’s the fundamental choice and that the fundamental choice is if — you’re a person in the media that covers the news it can’t be, oh, the Republicans stand for autocracy and Democrats stand for democracy and let’s see how this game plays out because as part of democracy is free– is media. Freedom of the press is a part of democracy. The media needs to do — actually, I had an idea of what the media needed to do better in an autocratic environment. The people who believe in freedom of the media. It is important to be more open-minded about the media, and less like it’s just A and B. Let the voters make the decision. We must stop denying that. We must tell voters the same threat as we do Joy. We tell them inflation, job growth, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfire, and how democracy is under attack.
REID: Adam Kinzinger, as conservative as they come. He and I would have no political agreement if we were to sit down. He’s getting death threats to his little kid and his wife. We are right there. Matthew Dowd is the one who’s eating himself, Matthew Dowd.
