It’s not fair to blame the failure of the GhostbustersThe press. Their antics didn’t help the 2016 movie, though.
That film, which Sony lost $70million to Sony, was the subject of a defense by journalists. It stalled a franchise. After the film’s release, story after story supported it. They also attacked critics for their hatred of a comedy featuring a woman-driven protagonist.
Four female actors were featured in the film. Ghostbusters, a flip from the 1984 film’s all-male lineup and its sequel. Even though the trailer was not very impressive, reporters insist that there were ulterior motives behind the trailer. Misogyny 101.
Richard Roeper, hardly a conservative, said his fellow critics graded the comedy “on a curve.”
In early 2020, the media tried another attempt to recover. Birds of PreyAt the box-office, underwhelmed. There was more spin and manipulation of facts than there was truth, but it still ended up the same. After poor box office results, the franchise was forced to stop.
Neither Hollywood nor our corrupt press learn from their mistakes, so it’s happening all over again.
The MCU’s new film EternalsIt is currently in theaters on Nov. 5. The film has been receiving mixed reviews. Even the positive critiques are far from glowing, and the movie hovered around the “rotten” mark at RottenTomatoes.com before falling to 53 percent at the moment.
That’s a first for an MCU film.
TheHill.com is your rescue.
The outlet of leftist bias, which cited a story from TheDirect that is not fully sourced, stated that audiences have been stealing the film sight unseen because it contains LGBTQ content. “Eternals” features an openly gay hero, played by Brian Tyree Henry, and offers a series of casting and plot choices that fall squarely in the “woke” category.
Marvel’s EternalsDue to the film’s inclusion of a homosexual kiss and LGBTQIA+ representation, it was criticized by IMDB reviewers.
To prove that negative reactions to TheDirect were motivated by anti-LGBTQ sentiment, Two Comments are provided in TheDirect. Except both comments don’t directly, or indirectly, reflect that thinking.
IMDB.com, which shut down pre-release views of the film following an uptick in negative comments, doesn’t allow visitors to sample the reviews in question now.
TheHill.com provides serious news. It is a serious news outlet. Why did it even write this story? The headline itself sounds hyperbolic – ‘War erupts over new Marvel blockbuster’s gay superhero’
Are you ready for war?
It’s the GhostbustersMedia template: Take two Reporters view EternalThey feel obliged to defend it as part of the wake revolution.
TheHill.com does little original reporting on its “blockbuster” story. It also can’t see the massive holes in its own narrative.
Today’s pop culture has many gay and lesbian stories. They’re everywhere in an industry that once tried to hide a lesbian star’s relationship with another actress, Anne Heche. Why are these small LGBTQ moments so prevalent in the industry? EternalsWhat can you do to provoke such a hostile response?
The evidence of IMDB also is weak.
Check out the comments left by other users. The majority of “critics” gave the film a 10 star rating, site unseen. The film received more positive reviews than the ones that were negative. Yet that doesn’t make it into the story because it doesn’t fit the victim narrative.
Another MCU property that TheHill.com mentions is the “MCU Properties” section. Avengers: EndgameAnd LokiAlso, it features LGBTQ characters. Has either one been “review bombed?” If not, why not?
Some early comments were related to EternalsIt could reflect an audience’s anger at the displayed sexuality. You could also see it as an expression of anger at the sexuality on display.
Over at liberal ScreenRant.com, the film’s negative user reviews are actually a positive trend, we’re told.
Kumail Nanjiani stated that Eternal review bomb is a sign that they’re upsetting the right people–he’s right and it’s a great sign for the MCU.
The subhead refers a tweet the EternalsSimply share the co-star and quickly delete it.
The Eternals review bomb is likely in response to the fact that it promises to be the MCU’s most diverse film to date, with a diverse cast of heroes that includes the first Deaf superhero for the MCU (although Hawkeye is set to confirm Clint Barton as hard of hearing) and the MCU’s first openly gay superhero.
Have audiences reviewed bombed any of the most recent episodes? Fast and furiousAre there sequels? This franchise is diverse and unapologetic.
There’s little doubt sites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes should lock down user reviews until a film or TV show’s release. That said, the media’s rush to weaponize early user reviews to prop up select titles is becoming more obvious … and embarrassing.
People will embrace actors from all races if they can deliver entertaining and good performances. If the “review bombing” phenomenon were as real and pernicious as we’re told, we’d see it across the pop culture landscape.
Where is it located?
Had the first Ghostbusters trailer made us laugh, the Comic Con-style murmurs about the film’s gender flip would have vanished. It would be great if the trailer had been released earlier. EternalsIt was praised by reviews as “the next” Avengers, much of the film’s poor press would evaporate, too.
It didn’t happen.
Now, it’s the press’s self-described duty to run defense for a film which might not live up to the lofty MCU standard at the box office.
Chances are, those efforts will only undermine the film’s financial prospects. Ask any Sony executive.
UPDATE – Slashfilm joins the fray. The liberal film site is accusing unnamed critics of trashing the film because it’s too diverse…after admitting the film is deeply flawed.
…but there are definitely some more ignorant factions of the (let’s be real, barely-vetted) Rotten Tomatoes establishment who might think so.
There are no sites mentioned. It is not possible to prove the claim. Another attempt by a media outlet to defend a title that shares their worldview is unsuccessful.
