Officer’s Shock After Firing at an Armed Suspect Shows the Human Side of Police – Opinion

Police officers aren’t exactly popular in this day and age. While the left hates police officers for being an authority figure who upholds an unfair system, recent events have led conservatives to regard them less trustworthy. There’s no question that conservatives still see police as important, but Uvalde taught the right a very deep lesson.

It is important to remember that even though police officers are human beings, they do not have the same rights as other people. Although there are some very bad acts committed by police officers, the majority of those who put on a badge or a gun every day are decent people. More than that, they’re simply human.

This video shows how humanity is displayed. Breitbart has posted this video. It shows two officers responding a call regarding an armed man who was in Dollar General and had fired a gun. Jalail Whitted (37-year-old black) is seen approaching the store with what appears to be his firearm in his right pocket and a cellphone. The officer instructs the man to put his hands up only to have the suspect reply with “shoot me.”

The officers begged the suspect to stop moving toward them, but he refused to comply. Clearly, the police did not want to shoot him and can be heard frantically asking him not to make any moves that would force them to fire on him, but the suspect continued to repeat “shoot me” and made slow movements toward his firearm.

Officers were eventually forced to fire upon Whitted. He was wounded but not killed. While this part was definitely the climax of the video, what caught more attention was one of the officer’s reactions to having had to shoot another human being, whom he presumably thought he had killed.

He went into shock, and he stood there like a statue while his gun pointed at Whitted. One of Whitted’s fellow officers noticed that he had become frozen and went to help him. They had to coax and pry the gun out of his hands which didn’t seem to want to move.

His fellow officers eventually managed to free the gun from his hand and loaded it. The Lieutenant gives the gun to him and instructs two other officers to accompany him to the hospital.

It’s important to remember that these men and women are out here still doing a job that needs to be done and that not everyone can do, and that it takes a very real toll on the people who do it. The badge is heavy, and while those who put it on don’t always measure up, more often than not, they’re a positive force on our society.

They are worthy of our support.
