Today is July Fourth, also known as Bloody Uppity Ungrateful Collonists Day. It’s a day for song and celebration. These are troubling times. Three pieces may not be thought of as part of the holiday.
The album was reviewed by me a few months back. VitalVector, the veteran Christian alt rock group, deservesly praises it. While I was assembling the “Of Forgiveness Without Compromise” post last night, I was going through the latest Cephas Hour episode and was struck by the lyrics of “Flesh and Bone” from VitalThe show also features.
We’ve been told so many lies to lock us down
Do we wonder why we’re broken
Let’s take our dreams and toss them on the ground
Everything is stolenOur bodies are not just meat and bones.
More than this, we are much more
More than this, we are much moreIf everyone could see the light,
Stand for it
Don’t lie down
Show them their faces
Make their voices heard and clearWe should not be afraid of anything in this world
All of us are stronger when we work together
It’s time to make our message clear
You can’t control us any longerMore than just flesh and bones, we are much more.
We’re more than this
More than this, we are much moreIf everyone could see the light,
Stand for it
Don’t lie down
Show them their faces
Make their voices heard and clearKeep inside
Do you think there will be enough time?
We will have another chance
We want to show people who we really areWhat do you think?
Can we shine?
More than this, we are much more
More than this, we are much more
Our bodies are not just meat and bones.
Fetus and boneStand for it
Don’t lie down
Show them their faces
Make their voices heard and clear
It’s a great anthem for rallying behind.
KXM is another band that has stood strong against oppression a few years ago. Consisting of King’s X bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, former Dokken/current Lynch Mob guitarist George Lynch, and Korn drummer Ray Luzier, the trio’s first album, released during Obama’s second term, contains this slice of in-your-face defiance against government overreach (warning: language).
Here are some lyrics samples:
To increase the confusion
This conclusion should be questioned
The solution you choose is important
To seize our rights
Don’t take our rights awayYou ignore the Constitution
We are being taken away from our liberty
Refuse to be called treason
Put your hands away
Richie Furay is the last manly genius.
Everyone, enjoy the fourth.
