MSNBC’s Hayes Mocks Fox News Pushing ‘Toxicity’ with Canadian Trucker Protest

At the end of Thursday’s All InMSNBC’s Chris Hayes, host of Fox News Channel, mocked Fox for its promotion of Tea Party rallies. Then he said that it was like promoting the Canadian Freedom Convoy. He protested it as a “Truly incredible display of the unique role that one network plays in American political life. For many years, Fox News has been operating this flatly propagandistic fashion.”

It might be fair to suggest it’s funny to promote an occupation of an urban area when it’s Canada and then oppose it with say, Occupy Wall Street. Hayes doesn’t seem to realize that in 2011 the shoe was already on the opposite foot. His company doing the “flatly propagandistic” stuff, like “Slow Jam The News: Fallon And Brian Williams Make Occupy Wall Street Sexy.”

HAYES – I’ve been thinking about American exceptionalism lately, especially in regard to the recent pandemic. Our vaccination rates were significantly lower than those of our peers, and we had more deaths and infections. Our right-wing media machine has supported a lot, cheering on it.

Hayes turned for Stephen Marche (Canadian journalist), author of the book Next Civil War: Dispatches From the American Future. a work of self-proclaimed “speculative nonfiction” promoted with this sunny premise: “The United States is coming to an end. The only question is how.” Marche theorized the entire protest is an imported fraud from America:

HAYES – Are you amazed Stephen that Fox News has taken up the cause of right-wing Canadians?

STEPHEN MARCCHE: No, actually, but I believe that one thing that is very obvious to us is the fact that this is a type of The spillover effect to American political, you’d say, toxicity and what we actually see is a — what the chief of police calls a significant element U.S. participation in the Ottawa blockade.

It’s no surprise to me that Americans — right-wing American people, are among the largest supporters of this. The party has no support in Canada and is only supported by a few thousand Canadians.

While they said the Canadian Conservative Party was against it, the Canadian Conservative Party has been pushing for the middle. They were not done with eradicating “toxic” conservatives.

HAYES – We are talking about exceptionalalism. Ted Cruz has all the facts, Ted Cruz — Ted Cruz is talking about patriotic Canadian truckers. American Republican politicians want to adopt that.

MARCHEYou know what? A nation is at the edge of civil war. This spills over to our border. This is what we really see. It’s the toxic American political discourse that has come here in such a horrible manner.Ted Cruz has a lot more to do with this than any Canadian conservative politician.

PS: In 2011, we singled out Marche for his syrupy and sickening valentine to Barack Obama in Esquire magazine:

[C]Let’s just take a minute to enjoy Obama. Can we take the time to enjoy Obama for a few months before we make hard choices and weigh the options? Because twenty years from now, we’re going to look back on this time as a glorious idyll in American politics, with a confident, intelligent, fascinating president riding the surge of his prodigious talents from triumph to triumph. No matter what happens in the fall, 2011 will be the year of Obama.
