On December 1, 2021, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a landmark abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Outside the court, activists on both pro-lifers and pro-abortion groups rallied.
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization involves the state of Mississippi’s 15 week abortion ban (enacted in 2018) which was challenged by a local abortion clinic and struck down by lower U.S. courts on the grounds that it violates the right to abortion provided by Roe v. Wade. This is a highly significant fact.
If SCOTUS were to uphold the Mississippi ban – current SCOTUS justices would have to reassess whether or not state abortion bans are constitutional.
