Moore to the Point – Freedom Sells – Opinion

Note: This “Moore to the Point” commentary aired on NewsTalkSTL on Wednesday, August 24th. Below is audio.

It may seem a little odd to focus on a New York congressional primary in a commentary for a Midwest radio station, but one of Tuesday’s races is particularly intriguing in that it will result (by the time this commentary airs) in the unseating of either Jerry Nadler or Carolyn Maloney for the next Congress.* The Democrat incumbents have been forced to face off compliments of redistricting. Reportionment has also resulted in New York losing a seat in Congress.

Recently, New York Governor Kathy Hochul took a potshot at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, imploring New Yorkers not to move to another state, and claiming that “Florida is overrated.” Perhaps Hochul is jealous, given that current New York-to-Florida migration rates are up about 55 percent over pre-pandemic numbers.

Florida held its primary also on Tuesday. GainedThis time, a seat in Congress

The Sunshine State isn’t just a prime vacation spot. 2021 marked the fifth consecutive year in which Florida led the nation in inbound migration – and the levels in 2022 have so far outpaced 2021. People aren’t just voting at the booth, they’re voting with their feet. What do these votes reveal about us?

Sunshine sells – and so does freedom.

*Spoiler alert – Nadler’s in, Maloney’s out.
