Mike Pence’s Tone-Deaf Response to FBI Raid on Mar-a-Lago Ignores His Role in Enabling The Swamp – Opinion

Former Vice President Mike Pence, who resigned in January 2021 has been virtually silent. He avoided much of the controversy surrounding J6, the ex-Trump administration, in which he was an active participant.

In February of 2022, he revealed in a speech to the Federalist Society that he had no power to assist Trump in overturning the election, because “the Presidency belongs to the American people.”

So it is surprising that Pence decided to weigh in on Monday’s raid on President Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. Pence is probably seeking to look more “presidential” since he is positioning himself for a 2024 presidential run.

Pence began his tweet by expressing sympathy for our pain in William Jefferson Clinton-style.

The unprecedented and disturbing search of Donald Trump’s personal residence has caused me to share in the concern of many Americans. In American history, no former president of the United States was ever subject to raids of his or her personal home.

He really thinks so? Those millions who voted for Donald J. Trump and were taken aback by Pence’s lack of solidarity with Trump’s challenges to the 2020 election certification have their doubts about that.

Pence continues:

There have been years when FBI agents were caught using political motivations to act during our administration. The Justice Department should address the continuing partisanship.

There has been a mess at FBI and DOJ for many administrations. Eight years Bush-Cheney and eight years Obama-Biden. Pence, who served Indiana during both of the administrations, was elected in 2001 to the United States House of Representatives. In Pence’s 12 years in the House, why did he not address the malfeasance in the DOJ? Pence instead voted in favor of the Patriot Act in 2001. It gave the Department of Justice more power. In 2009, Pence co-sponsored legislation that extended the Patriot Act’s library records provisions, roving-wiretap provisions, and the Patriot Act’s lone-wolf provisions by 10 years.

Instead of reining the deep state in, Pence wanted to further its goals, which was basically to keep power at all costs, regardless who is the highest-ranking official.

Pence was where when Eric Holder, Obama’s Attorney General, scoffed at Eric Holder’s involvement in Operation Fast and Furious and joked about being treated in contempt by Congress.

These are just a few examples of how an already hubristic agency has been further emboldened under Mike Pence’s watch. The DOJ capriciously targets Americans they do not like while ignoring sexual abuse and rogue agents and protecting those who were in league with the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign’s nefarious agenda to undermine the Trump presidency.

Now that we’ve gotten some daylight on that, one wonders about Pence’s lack of involvement there too. Remember General Michael Flynn? Pence also had a hand in the mess.

Pence’s next tweet is the first in a thread that we can see that he has decided to eat lunch.

Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately.

Pence, who President Donald Trump claimed was the COVID Task Force’s head, led to Americans being locked up and taken from their business. Pence allowed unelected bureaucrats Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, along with power-hungry governors like New York’s Andrew Cuomo, Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, and California’s Gavin Newsom to run roughshod over civil liberties and individual freedoms, while small businesses were decimated, and the elderly were placed with COVID positive patients stuffed into nursing homes and died.

Then when questionable things occurred during the 2020 election and people were censored, canceled, maligned, and arrested for pointing this out, what was Pence’s response?

The letter was written by him and he walked off. After all, he wasn’t going to let 16 years as an elected official be the end of the road for him. He chose country over party.

So, the “public confidence in the FBI and the Justice Department” ship sailed well over two years ago. Pence would know this had he not been too busy penning his autobiography, being a good Republican “standard bearer” for the chosen GOP-E candidates, and trying to polish whatever bona fides he has left in order to become the party’s chosen one for 2024.
