Michigan Has a Glut of GOP Candidates Filing a Year Before the 2022 Elections — Can They Win? – Opinion

Michigan! How I love you. Even though your politics are just as muddled as the words they contain and the manner in which you insist that they be said. Take, for instance, the beloved Mackinac ( mac-ki-nac) gets pronounced like this… ma-kuh-naa.

What the heck is going on?

Some times Michigan’s bright colors of purple can be so striking that people across the nation think it is a state that is trending red. In a loud and vocal voice, I disagree. This is a blue state. Start a ventureSometimes, purple. John Engler, our last Republican Governor was elected in 2002. Rick Snyder’s name had an R. He was elected for being more like a Democrat rather than a Republican. He finally made that “transition” official when he endorsed Joe Biden in the last Presidential election Finally, the last Republican Senator in this state was there for one term and left office in 2001. There have been some outstanding candidates who have contested the boring two dudes we have, and they have lost.

Blue is our state

Yet, there is a chance for the GOP to actually take Gretchen Whitmer out of the Governor’s seat and gain some other prime seats next year. It remains to be seen if they can do it.

The GOP is gaining momentum as we sit here today.

Start at The Detroit News

In Michigan, it has always been an indicator of political energy to have more candidates running for office. The party that had the most candidates filed by October 20th the year prior to Election Day was the one who won the highest number of seats the next November.

But political observers and Democrats say 2022 might be different if voters view the emerging GOP crop of candidates — some of whom are focused on relitigating the integrity of the last election — as too extreme.

“I think politics as a whole has changed,” said Jon Rocha, a 40-year-old Republican from Rutland Township who’s running for the state House in west Michigan. “I think we’re seeing a complete overhaul of how campaigns have been run.”

The restrictions imposed by Whitmer’s administration to combat COVID-19 helped boost Rocha’s involvement in politics, he said. Rocha believes the policies are unconstitutional, despite Democrats arguing that the restrictions placed on public outings and businesses saved lives.

Governor. Whitmer is a disaster in this state, on many levels. I covered it here at Red State.

Gretchen Whitmer loves private jets. She even flew on one for the Biden Inauguration

The Prosecutor Reported that He has received hundreds of complaints on Gov. Whitmer’s Senior Homes COVID Policies

Even though she made mistakes with COVID, floated on private aircraft to places that were not COVID-friendly, and despite the scandalous nursing home crisis, her approval rating is still high, at 48% to 46%. Her reelection war chest also includes more than 12 million dollars, which is quite impressive.

Like I mentioned, Michigan is, in its core, a blue state.

Yet, the GOP in the state has an opportunity to defeat a bunch of blue leftist hacks who have so badly handled everything from COVID response to parents having a say in their kids’ educations. The current national momentum is that Joe Biden’s presidency is already proving to be a disaster for anyone close to him. This should make for a great lead up to the November 2022 elections. With rising inflation and other debacles, there is no sign that Biden Inc. will be able to turn their fortunes around.

Is it because of this that I feel uneasy?
