Mental Gymnastics: The Root Somehow Brings Race into Depp-Heard Verdict

There have been many horrifying reactions to the verdict for Johnny Depp in his defamation case against Amber Heard. Candace McDuffie may have taken the cake for the worst one in an article published in The Root on June 1.

Depp vs. Heard is a hugely popular story that has been shared on social media and in daily news. Public display of the defamation case was a success. Both political parties were eager to share their views. The Root left-wingers managed to integrate race into their trial.

McDuffie, in her article, takes McDuffie’s side against Heard who, according to the court, had defamed Depp. He now owes McDuffie $15 million. The Root writer then makes the daft claim that “If the mistreatment of a wealthy blonde-haired, blue-eyed white actress is ridiculed by the world, what does that mean for Black women?”

The answer is: Nothing.

For black women it means nothing, and those people are aware of that. This article is obsessed about skin color. It is also a prime example of liberal racism essentialism where everything has to serve the narrative oppression. Even a court case between divorcing celebrities, it is totally removed from politics.

These facts prove that Johnny Depp was successful in his trial. The court also found Amber Heard to be guilty of actual malice. Amber Heard was found unreliable and convicted by the jury. Her portrayal as victim is not true. Furthermore, it is disingenuous to extend the topic to other black women.

But the left’s playbook has always been centered around victimhood. Even when their “victim” is proven to not be so, one must exist – or it must be created. McDuffie conjures a victim, spins stories and does as leftist media professionals do.

The Root continues to prove this with another terrible take.
