The suspect in the attack of Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., was arrested Saturday afternoon on a federal assault charge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of New York announced.

David Jakubonis has been scheduled for his first appearance in court before U.S. Magistrate Marion W. Payson. Zeldin is running for New York governor as a Republican.

There’s also updated information on what weapon Zeldin’s assailant wielded. A reporter noticed that the attacker had a pair brass knuckles moments after the attack.

According to Fox News, “Jakubonis was holding a black hardened plastic keychain with two sharp points designed for self-defense, police said.”
