Maddow Edits DeSantis Remarks, Falsely Claims He Never Condemned Nazis

Maddow deceived her viewers once more, editing a Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ statement. This was less than a week after NewsBusters spotted her editing it.

Maddow immediately turned her anger on DeSantis, after she discussed the Florida Nazi demonstrations. “In addition to this rash of Nazi incidents, in addition to the Nazi incidents themselves, kind of a follow-on scandal that’s now simmering in Florida, involving Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis”Maddow whined as if trying to make a scandal of everything.

Maddow then ran the first section of DeSantis’ reply to a reporter’s question asking the Governor for his response on the Nazi demonstrations.

RON DESANTIS: So what I’m gonna say is, these people…

Then, she cut him off. She left her viewers suspenseful by teasing “I’m just gonna stop that there for a second and say what I’m gonna say is these people you can sort of guess where he’s going, right?”Maddow continued to rant about DeSantis’ answer and the reporter’s questions.

This is the easiest and most direct question that an American politician can ask. You must respond to these Nazis. That’s like a long, slow softball right over the plate. Are you ready? There’s only one right answer to that and you shouldn’t have to memorize it. It’s an easy one. Answer the Nazis. That’s what Ron DeSantis was asked. And he starts off — so what I’m gonna say to these people. I wonder what he will say next. Here’s where he went with it.

Maddow then finally airs the Governor’s reply (or at minimum part thereof):

So what I’m gonna say is, these people these Democrats who are trying to use this as some type of political issue to try to smear me as if I had something to do with it, we’re not playing their game.

Maddow instantly cut down on her live, and she said in her usual condescending, smug tone: “Not going to play their game condemning Nazis?” Cause that’s a Democrat game that you don’t wanna get dragged into to muddy yourself? He continued his response for two-and-a-half minutes more, talking about Ron DeSantis (Florida Governor). “He even spoke about Airbnb.”

Maddow then outrightly lied about DeSantis’s statements and claims “He never got around to condemning Nazis.”

This is exactly what Governor DeSantis said.

Maddow again has shown that she can’t be trusted. You should verify your calendar if she tells what day it is.

RACHEL MADOOW: What’s the current state of Florida? In addition to this rash of Nazi incidents, in addition to the Nazi incidents themselves, kind of a follow-on scandal that’s now simmering in Florida, involving Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. What was the reaction of central Florida’s Nazi-affiliated groups when they arrived on Saturday? After yelling at people and beating up one Jewish pedestrian, the Nazis came back the following day. It was quite distressing, wasn’t it? They all rushed to condemn Nazism in central Florida, including local leaders and officials, Republican and Democrat. The local mayor, the sheriff, as well as members of Congress and Florida’s Republican U.S.A., came forward one by one. Senator Rick Scott — All of them volunteered and came out to condemn the events. The Governor’s initial response was a bit strange. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ initial reaction was this tweet by his Press Secretary, in which he said, “Do we know if they were Nazis?” Yeah. Yes, she and her husband volunteered to be there. Also, the swastika banners can help. She’s since deleted that tweet. You’ll be happy to know that after that wobbly start to this whole crisis, Governor DeSantis did finally get around to addressing the Nazis and Orlando issue. Here’s what he said.

[Cuts to video]

UNIDENTIFIED RECORDER: Respond to Orlando’s Nazi Demonstrations over the weekend. You feel that hate groups should feel safe? [inaudible]…

RON DESANTIS: So what I’m gonna say is, these people…

MADDOW: I’m just gonna stop that there for a second and say what I’m gonna say is these people you can sort of guess where he’s going, right? What I’m gonna say is, these people, what do you think he’s gonna say next, right? These people and these Neo-Nazi hate organizations have no place within our society or in Florida. These people are condemned to the highest degree. You figure that’s what he’s gonna say. Right? That statement is clearly where Florida’s governor is heading. It’s because it is one of the most simple questions an American politician can ask.

MADDOW – We’re not going to condemn Nazis. Cause that’s a Democrat game that you don’t wanna get dragged into to muddy yourself? When I say that Ron DeSantis is Florida’s Governor, I mean it. His answer lasted another two-and-a-half minutes. He then spoke about Joe Biden, inflation, immigration, and crime. He also spoke about Airbnb. However, he didn’t get around to condemning Nazis.
