Kevin Dalton Is Using His Five Smooth Stones to Take Down Goliath Hilda Solis in L.A. BOS District 1 – Opinion

“I don’t think being the incumbent is as much of a winning strategy as it has been in the past,”

Entrepreneur Kevin Dalton said.

Dalton is an Independent candidate in District 1 of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

[Glazed stares, and perhaps some yawns]

It is difficult to run as David against Hilda Solis incumbent on the Board of Supervisors Goliath because nobody knows, or cares about, what a Board of Supervisors job entails and how they can influence our lives. We all need to pay attention.

I have lived in Los Angeles County over 30 years and worked on some initiatives of L.A. Board of Supervisors. It is clear that they like it this way and deliberately avoid being scrutinized.

Dalton did not know who the Board of Supervisors was until 2020 when the pandemic struck.

“I never really thought about running for Board of Supervisors. Full disclosure: Two and a quarter years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to explain what the Board of Supervisors was.

“Then you know, of course, the pandemic hit and then all of a sudden our businesses were closed, kids schools were closed, beaches were closed, skate parks were filled with sand, and then all of a sudden it was like OK, STOP. What’s what’s going on here?

What is the Board of Supervisors?

Contrary to the separation of power that is characteristic of both federal and state governments the Board of Supervisors has both legislative and executive powers. The Board of Supervisors also holds quasi-judicial powers.

The Board of Supervisors, in simple terms, is the President and Congress combined into one. If your jaw has dropped, imagine Kevin Dalton’s reaction.

“Then I learned about the Board of Supervisors and started joining some of their their Zoom conferences, call meetings and seeing some of the unmitigated power that they have over 10 million people.

“It was… it was shocking.”

The full power of the 10,170/292 number is unmitigated The residents of 88 cities, which cover the 4084 sq. mi. of both incorporated land and unincorporated. Los Angeles County.

The Board of Supervisors manages 28 billion dollars in budget.

That’s Billion, with a “B.”

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has used those powers and that budget to hire Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s Dr. Barbara Ferrer, who rakes in, with benefits, close to half a million dollars annually. As RedState has reported, she’s not that kind of doctor. She has a PhD in Social Welfare, and a Master’s in Public Health.

You know all the school closings, mass vaccinating orders, and closures of business? You can thank the “Crypt Keeper” Dr. Ferrer, backed by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors for all of it.

Dalton decided that he had to be in the fight. However, legacy media continues to be a significant part of the Los Angeles TimesTo the Los Angeles Daily NewsInstead of covering the competitive battles in District 1, and District 3, they rubber stamp the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors races, instead of impartially reporting all of them.

Los Angeles Daily News

Trying to foil Solis’ re-election are David E. Argudo, 51, a La Puente City Council member; Brian Smith of Asuza, 43, an LA. County Sheriff’s deputy; Kevin Dalton of Pomona, 45, a father, yoga instructor and entrepreneur; and Tammy Solis, 47, a businesswoman from West Covina.

Smith and Argudo get some attention. The similarly-named candidate Tammy Solis doesn’t even have a campaign website. Other publications often mention her and say she is unavailable for interviews. Does Solis II pull a Joe Biden trick? Oder is Solis II an ingenious entity that splits the vote further, so Solis I receives over 50%?

Democrats have my vote, but that remains to be determined. You will find the remainder at Tuesday’s June 7th primary.

Dalton’s pitch on why District 1 voters should choose him over the others is fairly simple and straightforward:

“The first thing I tell them [voters] is I’m not a politician, so I’ve got no special interests. I’ve got no big corporations, I am beholden to two million people in my county.

“That’s it.

“That’s my job. It is not something I would ever like to do again. You get me for 4 years. Not 3 years. Then I campaign for 1 year in an effort to accomplish the task. Again, I think that’s incredibly disingenuous.

“My job is to serve the people and then inspire them to do the same thing.

“I want someone else from District 1 to step up and go, I’m going to do that! We can make our communities better by getting more citizens involved in boards and elected offices.

“I’m just an average guy trying to help my community.”
