Jordan Peterson Slams Ocasio-Cortez After Green New Deal Fails to Pass Senate

“mass-murdering ideologue utopians”

Following the Senate’s rejection of the ambitious Green New Deal Tuesday in a 57-0 vote, public intellectual and socialism cynic Jordan Peterson criticized the plan’s most visible proponent, progressive Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In a tweet accompanying a Daily Mail article that announced the proposal’s failure, Peterson accused the freshman congresswoman of sowing seeds of discord. While Ocasio-Cortez was not able to secure the passage of the Green New Deal, according to Peterson, she was successful in generating “a lot of divisive noise.”

Peterson is on the record as a harsh critic of both socialism and Ocasio-Cortez. In July of 2018, he lumped her in with “mass-murdering ideologue utopians” such as Joseph Stalin.

Ocasio-Cortez suggested Tuesday in a tweet that she had no intention of trying to get the legislation to survive the Senate vote, instead saying that she had in fact “encouraged” Democrats to vote present on the proposal, which addresses a problem that she has warned could end the world in 12 years.

Earlier in the day, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeted that the vote would allow the American people to “see which senators are so fully committed to radical left-wing ideology that they can’t even vote ‘no’ on self-inflicted economic ruin that would take a sledgehammer to America’s middle class.”

Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez, have called the GOP-proposed Green New Deal vote a “stunt” and accused Republicans of cheap political maneuvering.

Last month, McConnell announced his intention to hold a vote on the Green New Deal in the Senate. Fellow Republican Sen. John Barrasso said then that the main motivation was to call out Democratic presidential wannabes, saying it’s important “to get people on record as to how much they really want to take this country in a hard left direction.”

Ocasio-Cortez, likely the most vocal proponent of the controversial plan, expressed outrage Saturday at the GOP’s intention to hold a vote on the climate-change proposal.

“The GOP’s whole game of wasting votes in Congress to target others ‘on the record’, for leg they have no intent to pass, is a disgrace,” the freshman congresswoman said in a tweeted reply to Washington Post congressional reporter Paul Kane.

Still, many conservatives found it strange that Ocasio-Cortez appeared to be agitated that the legislation she supports was actually being voted on.

“Wait. I don’t understand! Why didn’t Senate Dems vote yes on the Green New deal?? AOC told me everyone loved it!” tweeted Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey. “She said it’s winning legislation! She said it’s popular and practical! All the Dem presidential hopefuls said ‘yas we love this!’ What happened?”

Peterson wasn’t the only one taking it to Ocasio-Cortez following the Green New Deal’s failure to pass the Senate. Team Mitch McConnell account replied to the Bronx native’s criticism of the Senate Majority Leader with an allusion to a popular meme, insinuating that Ocasio-Cortez was simply unwilling to concede that she’d been bested.
