Contrary to the opinions of some others, I’m pretty sure Jen Psaki is not actually good at her job. That’s not to say Joe Biden’s press secretary isn’t talented in her ability to deflect and deliver the talking points of the White House. But as I’ve shared in the past, I think much of her performance is a mirage.
Yes, Psaki is good at doing things that make Democrats squee with delight as they shout “Psaki-bomb” on social media. Psaki is awful when it comes the main purpose of her job which is communication. A president doesn’t have a comms shop for giggles. Psaki’s ineptness at persuading people, regardless of their political spin, is evident.
In a recently conducted interview, Psaki mocked anyone who expressed concern about crime.

Psaki shows us a side view of what is likely a TV showing live news feeds from the cable networks in the video clip. It is noted that CNN and MSNBC have both chyrons talking about the potential deployment of 8500 troops in Europe. Whether that’s true or not, who knows. That kind of thing would be a job for Newsbusters to confirm, and the idea that CNN and MSNBC don’t often have wildly hyperbolic segments is alter-reality stuff.
Regardless, she moves on to Fox News, noting that their chyron reads “soft-on-crime consequences.” Yet, instead of conceding that’s a serious issue that holds serious implications for many Americans, Psaki mocks the concern, asking “What does that even mean?” as she chuckles into the camera. She then proclaims such coverage as part of an “alternate-universe,” claiming it’s “scary” that people are watching it.
Think about it. Imagine you’re in Washington, DC, just across from Psaki’s well-protected, affluent neighborhood. Property crime is on the rise, as well as murders and car thefts. Wouldn’t you find the administration’s mocking of those realities rather insulting? You bet I would. It is clear that soft-on crime policies in large blue cities can cause harm and death to scores of people. That’s not really debatable at this point.
This is where we get back to the results of Psaki’s tenure. Talking points are not enough. You also need to add the right amount of sass. This kind of stuff may be annoying to Jennifer Rubin, but it is actually frightening for millions of Americans who are afraid to go outside at night due their war-zone cities. That Psaki won’t even acknowledge that as she laughs at the poor rubes who can’t use DoorDash every evening offers a window into Joe Biden’s woes.
The president’s collapsing approval It is directly related to the administration’s inability to operate within the reality that clearly exists. Crime isOut of control. It would be a good idea for the White House to admit this fact and work towards fixing it. Psaki, however, would prefer to ridicule anyone who isn’t in line with the mainstream left. Biden’s presidential campaign was based on the idea of being the rational moderate, who will operate within the bounds of commonsense. But, Psaki’s and his other handlers are clear in their message: You will be despised.
The Biden administration will pay the political price.
