“The last time somebody told Americans to sit down and shut up was 1776.”
Conservative Hollywood actor James Woods excoriated New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after she tweeted out a challenge urging critics of the controversial Green New Deal to propose an alternative or else acknowledge that she and her ilk are “in charge.”

“If you don’t like the #GreenNewDeal, then come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis,” the freshman congresswoman wrote in response to a tweet from the Human Rights Commission’s Charlotte Clymer. “Until then, we’re in charge – and you’re just shouting from the cheap seats.”
Yup. If you don’t like the #GreenNewDeal, then come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis.

This didn’t sit well with Woods, who interpreted Ocasio-Cortez’s words as a condescending exhortation to Americans, ordering them to “sit down and shut up.”
So, you may have missed this, but the way it works in America is YOU work for US. The last time somebody told Americans to sit down and shut up was 1776. If you ever learn to read, look it up. You are not only a idiot, you’re an arrogant idiot, and there is nothing more dangerous https://t.co/5Hn8IoHFn8

The much-hyped, and much-reviled in some corners, Green New Deal offers net-zero greenhouse gas emissions within 10 years, health care for all, high-speed trains, and support for family farming. The proposal has met with stiff resistance from Republicans. Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced plans to force a vote on the Green New Deal. McConnell’s fellow Republican, Sen. John Barasso of Wyoming, explained the strategy by saying it’s important, “to get people on record as to how much they really want to take this country in a hard left direction.”
“It’s astonishing to see this many presidential candidates moving so far to the left on a position that is going to raise energy costs for families, hurt jobs in America and really provide almost a government takeover of many of the industries in our country,” he said.
