On Friday, the House barely passed a bill banning assault weapons.

The House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), originally stated that the event would take place next month.
While most Republicans lined up against it, Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-NY) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) crossed the aisle and supported it, while five Democrats voted against it — Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR), and Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI).
The bill is ridiculous — targeting AR-15s and things that look “scary” to Democrats, the Hill reports:
Representative David Cicilline, D-R.I., is leading the assault weapon ban legislation. He was co-sponsored and sponsored by 207 voting Democrats. It specifically prohibits sale, manufacture transfer, or import of semi-automatic assault guns, semi-automatic pistols, and semi-automatic shotguns depending on their characteristics.
The ban applies to semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines that have a pistol grip or forward grip and a barrel shroud or threaded barrel, or any folding, Telescoping, or detachable stocks. The legislation would prohibit semi-automatic assault rifles that have fixed magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds.
It’s likely to die in the Senate because of strong opposition–and that’s making our friend, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) very unhappy.
BIG NEWS: A bill was passed by the House to ban assault weapons, and help save lives.
It’s time for the Senate to do its job. Now, dammit.

They did manage to pass a red flag law bill in June, but this bill is unlikely to gain the bipartisan support that that bill had–and that was bad enough.
