Ghislaine Maxill was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for helping Jeffrey Epstein, a powerful pedophile, abuse young girls. This is the culmination of a tragic fall from grace for this British socialite and convicted sex-trafficker.

US District Judge Alison Nathan said the sentence of 240 months was “sufficient and no graver than necessary,” for Maxwell, who earlier addressed the court and told her victims, “I am sorry for the pain that you experienced.”

“I hope my conviction and harsh incarceration brings you pleasure,” said Maxwell, wearing blue jail scrubs, her dark brown locks cut in a bob.

The government requested a 30-55 year sentence. In her sexual abuse case, federal prosecutors sent a memorandum to the judge asking for the highest possible sentence. It was because she had been involved in the vast child sexual exploitation network over many years.

Maxwell’s 60-year-old lawyers had requested leniency of the judge, noting the circumstances under which she was held at New York City’s Metropolitan Detention Center.

The AP/WNYW continued to report:

Prosecutors stated that Ghislaine Maxill has not shown any remorse or even suggested she might accept responsibility for the abuse.

Maxwell addressed the judge Tuesday and stated that she was unable to speak to her after listening to statements from victims.
