California boasts the highest gasoline prices in America, with some areas averaging $7/gallon. Federal authorities and state officials have debated the idea of gas tax suspensions in order to provide some relief at the pumps. However, California will soon enact a new tax effective July 1.
With the support of some Republican sellouts, the controversial gas tax rise was passed by the state legislature under the cloaks of darkness. When taxpayers caught wind of the hike, they cried foul, and worked to get a repeal of the new tax on that November’s ballot.
Proposition 6 would have been won. But, at the very last moment, Democrat operatives in the government were able change the language for the ballot measure. The new language was purposefully confusing, making a “no” a “yes” and vice versa. The language was manipulated so that many voters thought they were voting to reject the gas tax hike (as in, “NO, we don’t want this!). A “YES” vote was completely counter-intuitive, but would have meant that, yes, voters are agreeing to repeal the hike. The bad guys prevailed, so it was intentionally twisted in order to confuse voters.
Many things have happened in that time and many people forgot that July 1 will see the introduction of the new tax. Residents have been denied a temporary suspension by the state assembly of 51c state gas tax. California State Assembly decided to increase the gas tax by nearly three cents, despite families struggling to pay their bills, feed the family, or find formula for the baby, The state gas tax in California will increase to 53.9c per gallon as of the weekend.
Governor Newsom has begun to prepare for a presidential campaign. This is not a good idea for the costliest state in the Union, which proposes to charge residents more to cover the basic necessities, while the Democrat party appears to be going through a major financial crisis. Perhaps he’s hoping to be able to still run on Roe V. Wade when the time comes.
