Forget Melania Trump, Madam First Lady Doctor Jill Biden Is a Fashion Trendsetter – Opinion

Jackie Kennedy and her Kennedy Machine were the first to show us First Lady grace and style. Visual media had become a powerful selling strategy and the Kennedys utilized it to their advantage. Jack likely won the 1960 election because, while he “lost” the presidential debate on policy and substance, he looked and acted vital and young — at least on TV. Jack was nervous and cautious on radio. Jackie was a natural First Lady. Jackie was beautiful and youthful. Coming from wealth and marrying into immense wealth didn’t hurt either.

Jackie donned a Christian Dior suit in cherry red to tour the White House 60 years ago. It was Valentine’s Day. The TV special was in black & white but she knew that her image in that dress would be republished, in print, in full color. The dress and she looked beautiful. It is tragic that everyone recognizes or could identify the Jackie Kennedy dress when President Kennedy died. One needn’t drift into partisan politics to appreciate that Jackie was what one would picture as a “First Lady.”

Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton had different ambitions. But they were open to the suggestions of stylists. They chose what was best for them. Hillary knew her limits and covered them with pantsuits. Michelle slipped into less flattering styles from time to time, but it was rarely.

Trump’s spouse, who was an ex-model, dressed up for her role as First Lady when she won. Jackie Kennedy was also married to Melania and knew the importance of presentation. Melania looked beautiful and appropriate dressed. Melania was 49 years old and is still an example of beauty. She could have worn a bag to look beautiful. She didn’t, of course. She dressed according to the occasion.

Melania was undoubtedly the most attractive First Lady, but she suffered from four-plus decades of mockery and absurd remarks that ridiculed her accent, style, looks and appearance. Melania would wear only designer clothes, but never made it onto the covers of any glamour or style magazine. Michelle Obama was on more covers than Melania. Her cover appearances were more than those of professional models. Vogue and People, Time, Redbook. Essence. Essence. Glamour. Essence. Michelle Obama has appeared multiple times on numerous covers.

Melania appears on zero covers. Why? It’s wrong politics.

Jill Biden took stylists’ advice before 2020. She “dressed” for the part. The dresses and suits she chose were appropriate for a nearly 70-year old grandmother. After the election and inauguration, she seems to have hired Kamala’s speechwriters as her First Lady stylists. Some styles are just not appropriate for a First Lady of 71 years old. Fishnet stockings, and something with slips showing like a miniskirt. A Gen-Z bar hopping look doesn’t translate well for Dr. Jill.

Vogue disagreed. Vogue captured the look on Grandma Biden’s beautiful face:

“First lady Jill Biden recently wore a pair of playfully patterned, fishnet-adjacent tights while deplaning Air Force One in Washington, D.C. This is not a scandal—but because the Biden White House does not tend to produce personal scandal, some conservative talking heads are trying to turn it into one”

Ok, Vogue. Jill was striking in her fishnet. And Biden scandals? They don’t eat burgers. They have no personal scandals. Seriously that’s what Vogue wrote. Vogue then went on to attack Melania, because one can’t write about politics and not mention Trump. It is quite a leap to fishnets for a Trump.

Recently, Dr. Jill is on a fashion spree. It was cringeworthy to see the dress she wore when she went shopping in the middle of what appears to be an ongoing First Family vacation. What was my reaction? “Woof, what is that mess?” I asked my costume-designing wife for an assessment. I didn’t want to be too harsh. It might become the new norm for grandmas who are 71.

It was inappropriate for her age. What is the point? Grandma shouldn’t be wearing smock-top dresses and they are designed to be worn off-the-shoulder, and down, not “let’s catch some rainwater” over the shoulders. When would that be appropriate? “12” was the answer. To be fair, Jill was shopping with Hunter’s wife. Hunter may have requested that she wear the item.

Recent COVID diagnosis was made to Dr. Jill. She’ll be out of the public eye for a while. Rest assured, Jill’s covered on drugs and dresses. She’s double vaxxed, double boosted and she’s covered for her sickbed jammies. Her outfit resembles one from the ER. gown.

I can guarantee that once Jill recovers from COVID she’ll be on a magazine cover. You could even have multiple covers. Similar to Vogue. It’s almost time for the midterms. I’m just hoping it’s not in black fishnet and a miniskirt or her hospital gown.
