FBI Report: Antifa Tried to Stage Border Rebellion by Buying Guns From ‘Mexican Rambo’

“I’m a revolutionary. A man who believes in his ideals, and I’m going to defend Mexico.”

The FBI is investigating an alleged plot by Antifa to “stage an armed rebellion” and “disrupt U.S. law enforcement and military security operations at the US/Mexican border,” according to a Tuesday report in the San Diego-Union Tribune.

According to a December FBI document obtained by the Union-Tribune, the agency is investigating criminal activity by the far-left group that included alleged plots that would affect American homeland security.

The FBI report alleges that “anti-fascist activists” were looking into buying firearms from a “Mexico-based cartel associate known as Cobra Commander” that would be used to “stage an armed rebellion at the border.”

The document, which was also shared with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the CIA and the National Security Administration, warns that Antifa activists “planned to disrupt U.S. law enforcement and military security operations at the US/Mexican border.”

Two law enforcement sources told the Union-Tribune that so far nobody has been charged with any crimes, though the investigation is still ongoing.

The Union-Tribune spoke with two of the individuals, “Cobra Commander” Ivan Riebeling and Evan Duke, named in the document. Both dismiss the accusations as far-fetched.

“It doesn’t make any sense that someone in the United States would purchase guns in Mexico,” Riebeling, a Tijuana resident, told the Union-Tribune. “And the Hondurans certainly didn’t bring money to buy guns. It doesn’t make any sense; in fact it’s extremely absurd to say the Hondurans wanted to attack the United States at the border.”

“I am not cartel. I don’t sell drugs. I don’t sell arms,” Riebeling, who is also known as the Mexican Rambo, added. “I’m a revolutionary. A man who believes in his ideals, and I’m going to defend Mexico.”

The critic of President Donald Trump’s policies is accused of being “associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.”

While Riebeling admitted that he has “associates with several of the cartels,” he denied being a narco-trafficker or a gun-runner.

The FBI has been putting greater emphasis on investigating Antifa in recent years, with some in the agency warning more attacks are likely to come in the future.

The radical far-left group has been especially active since the election of Trump, often making news for disrupting events or inciting violence during their protests.

While Trump has been extremely critical of the group, some in the media have tried to defend their actions. This week, CNN host Chris Cuomo said that there are “certainly aspects” to Antifa that are “true to a cause, that is a good cause.”
